It needs to go on IDS dealer laptop to check. It might just need self learn adaptions reset and it might be worse. The up-shift points are calculated by throttle position, engine load(air mass meter signal) engine RPM, temperature, and road speed. It could be any of these sensors. Is it re-mapped? because very occasionally the software does not calculate the load map transition to the transmission ECU - but this is very rare - if it's not re-mapped then not. It could be a mechanical fault in the transmission valve body/chest (sticking valve) where by the transmission ECU is switching power to the appropriate shift solenoid but the up-shift is mechanically inhibited. This can easily be proved on IDS screen with a quick run up the road or on wheel free rollers checking actual gear selected. If this is the case you can normally hear the engine note change because on ZF transmissions with petrol units they normally retard the ignition timing during the upshift - to make the shift smoother by taking the load off the engine, but if the up-shift is delayed you can hear the engine note change as the ignition stays retarded until the up-shift has taken place. If it gets any worse it should go into de-fault and give a warning on dash becasue it measures the time between losing the one shift speed and taking up the next on the foward clutches. It is very occasionally the transmission ECU inside the transmission valve body - you have to buy a complete vale body if that's the case.
