2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black
Difference between 4.2S/C and 3.6TDi handling

Hi

I am back on the look for a RRS, I want the 4.2 but the girlfriend thinks that with the mileage I do the 3.6 might be better, so we test drove both today.

The Supercharged was an 09 with 9k miles on the clock and 20 inch alloys

The TDi was an 08 with about 15k on the clock and again 20 inch alloys

We drove the TDi first and I was surprised how it rolled on roundabouts etc. We then went to another garage and drove the S/C on a different route. When we got into the S/C it felt a lot tighter to drive with less body roll and had a much nicer drive - we are both used to sports cars (Impreza P1, Focus ST etc...)

I mentioned this to the second sales person (who had only been selling the Land Rover brand for 4 months) and they were confident that the suspension would be the same for the S/C and the TDi, which is a surprise to me as I know in normal vehicles the TDi engine is normally heavier but in such a large vehicle would this make a difference..

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the TDi and the S/C handling to make the cars feel so different or is there a difference between the 08 and 09 models that may account for this?

Thanks in advance
Dave
