noticed today.. every so often (probably one in four) when i try to start I get a 'click' sound and nothing. Turning the key back to position 0, and then trying again sometimes fires her up, but probably 50% of the time she still doesn't start - subsequently turning the stereo, air con etc OFF seems to do the trick

thoughts? starter motor? battery?

Sounds like starter solenoid or a bad earth. Failing that it could be a lazy starter which my Defender suffers from.

I had that problem with my previous TDV6.

When you start, try turning the key, wait for the car to go through the prestart checks and then turn the engine over. seemed to do the trick with my car. '08 RRS TDV8
I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil

to close this thread.. it got swapped out for a new unit under warranty (35k miles)
