Eating & drinking in Brussels

Going on a rugby tour next weekend to Brussels. The tour organiser has managed to book a hotel without a bar! Thud Can anyone recommend some bars and restaurants in the centre of town. We are staying at this hotel - Hotel Astrid, Place du Samedi 11 Zaterdagplein so anything nearby would be good. Thumbs Up Normal rules apply to the bar - must be able to handle 50 bodies. Late night opening a must! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

if you like steak, go to "pave eu bruxelles", family run steakhouse just off the grand place, ive been every year for about the last fifteen, and you dont come out hungry!! usually have a round of snails then a massive sirloin! avoid rue des bouchers, the street with all the seafood bars, they are a fortune and pretty rubbish!

would have been there this week myself for the yearly seafood exhibition, but couldnt get a decent hotel for less than £400 quid for a single room!! MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

I wouldn't eat steak in Belgium, not been able to find a decent one, you get far better ones in the UK.
But I've not tried pave eu bruxelles. One nice thing is that the cafes are open pretty much 24/7 tho most are shut on monday Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Sad I know, but the biggest excitement for me in Brussels was finding the restaurant (sadly closed at the moment) on Grand Place that served as the Restaurant Candide in Secret Army (BBC, 1970's), for those of you 40+'ers who remember it.

Have to be honest and say I was expecting Brussels to be a bit boring, but I couldn't have be more wrong - it's a beautiful city and I could happily have spent a week just wondering round! Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

Well I'm sure you will be fine afte he has had a few Wink
Kids are ok in cafes, bars have a slightly diffrent meaning here, where you usually have to pay the "entertainment" by the hour Whistle
I've seen kids from about 10 upwards in cafes until the small hours of the morning but usually only when there is something on. While they can drink it is frowned on when they are under 15, You can smoke in bars as long as they don't serve food and all other establishements are non smoking indoors.
Oh and Friet (chips) are Belgian not french and they are eaten with mayonaise Smile
a good beer to try is Rochfort 10 with the blue cap or the 6 with the red cap Mr. Green Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Have to say that some of the Belgian restaurants etc don't exactly make you want to rush in... Very Happy

There are fantastic thais in Brussels, like this one I visit each time I go there :

And outstanding meats :

But you have to stay away from Grand Place, which is a tourist trap. 2010 TDV6 3.0 HSE Santorini Black Tan Full Leather
