This used to be the case with my previous RRS, but it happens very seldom with the 2010. And if you decrease the following distance to only 2 "<<" of even 1 "<" on the 2010, the issue almost never occur.
There is no doubt in my mind that they changed the software on the 2010's - I realised that immediately when I used the ACC the first time on the 2010. After 3 years with the 2007, one eventually knows when the system will be fooled and when the typical situation occurred, I was surprised to find that the ACC was not fooled.
I came home about an hour ago after a 700km journey, half of which on fairly busy and very twisty freeways and the system was only fooled once in a sharp corner to the right (we drive on the left hand side) with a lorrie directly "in front" in the left lane. But even then it did not even slam on the brakes - just eased off on the accelerator, only to resume to the set speed about a second ago. It was really a pleasure having the ACC. I have to do to the same trip in 2 weeks time and the ACC was one of the main reasons why I decided to do it again in the RSS and not in my Audi A8 (which has "normal" cruise control).
By the way, I found an explanation on how to retrofit the ACC on the A8 – it has been done, but it is a MAJOR project (at least, on that vehicle) . The biggest issue, apart from all the control units etc, is the breaking bit. If I remember correctly, it was possible to retrofit the ACC on the A8 because the standard cruise control of the Audi (unlike most other cruise controls) has the ability to apply the vehicle’s breaks. 2010 Sport Supercharged with all options apart from TV and Extended leather (wish I had the latter) (Previously 2007 RRS S/C)
