if noticeably worse when cold, my guess is the new tread/rubber - its a common report on Boxsters |

Check the ball joints. Earlier cars had "light" ball joints that may fail. These have since been redesigned and are much beefier. |

Are the tyre pressures correct? I think vredestein suggest running them at higher pressures than LR put on the door sticker. RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i |

Thanks for the various suggestions. Is checking the ball joints something I can easily do myself or do I need to go to a LR dealer for that?

For anyone whose interested this turned out to be a half-seized universal joint at the base of the steering column. According to the LR dealer mechanic who fixed it (a nice, genuine guy who I've known for several years) it's the first time he's come across this on a RR Sport (that's only 3.5 years old) but apparently it's quite a common fault on older models of Discovery. Not expensive to fix and it's certainly nice to have my silky smooth steering back again |
