Should kids under 21 be banned from the internet

RANT RANT RANT

Every afternoon my normally 4-5Mbps broadband connection goes to sleep at 3 minutes after 4 - ie just after the school bus has dropped off the kids from the local secondary school. At the moment I am getting between 25 and 100kbps and even a page of RRSport takes an age to down load, forget down-loading anything fro iPlayer - just now I was downloading a programme and had 9 minutes left to go, school gets out and now that 9 minutes has become 4hrs! School kids should be reading books not downloading their favourite music tracks from iTunes..............

I must be becoming a grumpy old man ............... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

NP The problem is I am about as far as you can get from the village exchange without being outside the village and all the kiddies live between my house and the exchange. We also have no fibre optics yet, it's a good old copper-wire line between the houses and exchange here. My parents live next door to the exchange and get download rates I can only dream of! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Distance is the killer for DSL services, but as Nick says worth seeing if your ISP can put you on a lower contention ratio service - might cost an extra few quid a month, but worth it. I am with Plusnet and use their 20:1 product, much more responsive than their 50:1 service which is what I started out with many moons ago.

Tim the other thing worth looking at is the BT Broadband Accelerator called I-Plate.
It replaces your existing phone socket face plate and has some noise reduction circuitry
that reduces background line noise (nothing you'd actually hear on the line) and increases
the speed of your broadband connection. I was given one free by my friendly BT Engineer
at work but after installing it and seeing my broadband speed leap from an average of 3.5 meg
to 7 meg! I have to say I think it really does work Thumbs Up

Cool, Hope it helps M8 Thumbs Up

One thing I forgot to mention is that you may see an immidiate improvement but normally it takes a few days of use to get the best improvement, Not too sure of the exact reason but it's something to do with the way the BT exchange calculates what bandwidth to allocate to you and this is a dynamic function so can take a few days for their systems to see that your line speed can be increased --- Or something like that -- I'm sure you will find a highly techie explanation on the web if you want to know the exact details. Picked one up this afternoon and already I see a vast improvement. Normally at this time of the evening I am lucky to see 100kbps,more like 50-80kbps - I'm now getting 500-900kbps with spikes to 1.3mbps! On the subject of broadband speeds, anyone any ideas why my neighbour right next to me gets 11meg speed yet I only get 5.5 meg?? Only difference is hes with BT (doesnt have the plate thingy) and Im with O2! Am I being cynical thinking that BT "strangle" the data speeds to make their product look the best?? Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

535d m-sport Platinum grey and a few extras.... Gone

X5 3.0 sd in Space Grey, 20's, Dynamic Pack, Memory Pack, Media Pack, Tow Pack, Rear DVD, Panoramic Sunroof, Steps, 7 Seat Pack, Reversing Camera with moving lines, programmable park heat, etc etc etc - Gone

Range Rover Sport Santorini, privacy, dvd, towpack GONE!!!
