96K KM's Service - One For Bobby

Went through Bobby's service schedule here http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic13315.html as its about due its 96000 KM service.

My local independent service company has recommended changing the auxiliary, Front and Rear Camshaft belts (LR specialists), my local LR franchise thinks not... The schedule clearly states 168K KM's before this is done.. .. anyone heard about this being brought forward ??

I am actually going to get the Transmissions fluid changed (very expensive Big Cry ), i think the sealed for life/10 years policy has been superceeded in terms of overall owner policy in ANZ

Thanks

It may be that they have to drop the transmission out of the car to change the fluid, or it's a body-off job hence the expense. If the body has to come off (quite a few jobs require it) then it would make sense to have the belts done at the same time as IIRC the rear one requires the body to come off too. More info above

The TDV6 has two belts one at the front and one at the rear, a lot of main dealers will do the change by taking the body off the car as the belt at the rear is difficult to get to. However if it does let go it doesn't do any damage, it will just cut the engine out. The belt at the front is the main one to worry about.

interesting Bobby as we adhere in ANZ to 6 months/12000 KM service intervals rather than 3/6000 as per ardous.. Slightly bemused on why the LR dealer and the specialist have differing opinions, perhaps they think i take it across the outback on a regular basis

Just have to get the quotes and see

Cheers
