Tyre Pressures

I just fitted some 255/55R18 Pirelli Scorpion ATR's to my RRS and I now notice some vibrations / wobbles around 75-80km/H. Almost like torque wobble in 5th at low speed, but it does not change when I change up. I did notice this with the old Conti's but I pumped up the tyres to 40psi and it was then hardly noticeable.

Not sure if this is a diff / prop shaft balance problem that is amplified by harder ATR tyres? I am running 40psi in the Scorpions. I upped it to 44psi and it seems to have improved a little.

Has anyone had driveshaft / prop shafts balanced? Or should I get on car wheel balancing - only thing is that goes straight out the door when wheels are rotated. I did get Hunter Road Force balancing on the old Conti's and they were good.

Is the RRS that sensitive to tyres / pressures etc or do I have a balance problem somehwere? RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Sounds like the 'Characteristic' Steering Shimmy, that LR say is normal, but usually only on 20's.

Not sure if the ATRs tread pattern can create similar.

From my experience the RRS is very sensitive to wheel/tyre setup - far too much for a car that is expected to offroad and behave on tarmac. I've had issues on 18s GY Wranglers and 20s Contis.

But all sorted now, after a lot of RFV balancing and alignments checks, and regularly rechecked.

Didn't 2nd Rower have a similar issue with 18 ATRs? He has posted at length on it.

Good Luck. Thumbs Up

My issue is at about 55km/h, and Land Rover Australia senior management told me in a call to take the All Terrains off, they weren't recommended on a Range Rover Sport, and even asked why I needed them! Shocked

But then if you call Land Rover Australia Customer Care call centre, you'll be told that you can absolutely fit them, and that it's what the Range Rover Sport is designed for!! Thud

Just another excuse not to honour the warranty because they actually don't know how to support the product they are selling! Evil or Very Mad

Try wheel balancing, never had any issue myself, with mud or a/t tyres, as long as they get balanced.

No, not that Slider - I had three steering racks to sort that out. I agree, way too sensitive for a 4WD - everytime I have had a rotation / balance etc it does all sorts of weird things for a while. Like wearing in a set of new leather shoes I guess, you cringe and groan in pain until they break in and then you don't want to take them off! My old Conti's (despite being worn to the belt) were just like an old set of sandshoes....perfect!!

HAve to try the RFV balance again, but soooo expensive and for a "tough 4WD" almost ludicrous! RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

They did, when they fitted the ATR's....but I suspect it is a crap balancer (& operator). Will try a specialised place. RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Have same tyres fitted to mine for over 20,000miles now.

Have run 10psi in mud up to 40 psi on road with full load and have not had any problems such as you describe.
