Guys I've been wanting a RRS or possibly a RR for awhile now and getting very serious as Jan approaches (good deals to be had in Jan/Feb?) but anyone I know who has either a RRS a RR or a Disco 3 has had problems, most recent being brakes failing at low speeds twice on a disco 3 that is 6 mths old
My local garage man says they have loads of electrical problems and with Ford having them for awhile and now the Indian company he thinks it will get worse.....
so, question is to all you owners is "Whats the REAL story?" do they have more problems than usual and what should I look out for in an 06/07 plate?

I bought a 55 RRS SC - I have had it for 12 months and I still love driving it. It's had a major service - £1k including a replacement keyfob under warranty.
My advice - just take the Approved/extended Warranty - either from LR or elsewhere - then enjoy the car and expect that when/if it goes wrong - your covered.

My wife’s Audi Q7 is in the shop every 2 - 3 months with issues, The BMX X5 we got rid of was the biggest POS... I dont think there is a car out there that is exempt from failures.

The question you have to ask your self is do you want to play it safe in a Honda or do you want to play safely in a Range Rover. I think everybody on this board will say the limited amount of pain is worth the exponential amount of pleasure.

Think this should answer your question....I've had Audi's, BMW's, Mercs and a Bentley - my RRS is more reliable than any other car I have owned - never had to call out breakdown once in nearly 2 years.....

Now owned Land Rovers for 16 years. Had only one breakdown out of the 7 Land Rovers, had to call LRA out once for my last RRS as it kept going into limp home mode. As well as my TDV8 I also have a 14 year old Defender that has never missed a beat. Land Rovers are exremely complex cars and need to be looked after properly, no penny pinching on services. There are lots of Land Rover specialists who can service the newer cars these days so if you by a used one you don't have to take it to a main dealer, but if you would be silly not to buy some sort of warranty with a car out of the 3 years warranty. They are no worse than any of the other big brands 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I had a Volvo XC90 prior to the Sport and it was in the garage 23 times in 8 months of ownership! At one point they had it for FIVE weeks! All sorts of fuelling and gearbox issues!
Bought the Sport in May and so far its been to the garage 3 times. Twice to sort the tailgate soft close and that was only due to their bodyshop contractor not doing it right 1st time!
3rd visit was to get an i-pod interface fitted!

So far its slaughtered the XC on comfort, fuel economy, towing abilty, in fact in just about EVERY point!

I bought the XC as I'd had 2 other Volvos prior and they were bulletproof so it just goes to show....

You pays your money and takes your chance! Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Having had my TDV6 RRS sport for just over a year now (and the fact that I've just renewed the tax on it is testament to that fact that I must like it as I've normally got bored and changed by about month 11 of ownership!) I can say the following:

1) I've never had to send a car back to the garage to get things sorted more than this one...to me it appears that some areas of the car are almost over engineered, whilst others are most certainly under engineered and appear to have been rushed, without proper, longer term testing....my car is now running sweetly though and all the niggles appears to have been sorted!

2) I've never had such good customer service in dealing with the warranty issues and giving me straight, no bullshit answers to my pedantic questions (Many thanks Guava, you are one of the main reasons I've kept it! )

3) I've not dealt with a better dealership when looking at replacing it for a new one (Thanks CHPR, I will be buying my next car from you, not the muppets at guy salmon thames ditton )

4) I've not enjoyed a car more (with the exception of my 1st ZM Coupe) as an overall package and with a young baby I feel much safer in my RRS when heading off on journeys than in anything else I've owned in the past

5) Despite the issues that I've had, I'm struggling to think of what I'm going to replace my current vehicle with, other than a TDV8 RRS or a TDV8 FFRR and I grin whenever I get in it to go somewhere. (OK, so maybe I have a dark hankering for a black Cayenne GTS but that may pass...... )

6) As a young(ish) bloke, I've never had more evil looks when driving than when in my Sport...ah well, never have been one to worry about public opinion.....

Like, I imagine, many of the people on here, I've had a good selection of cars over the years (without anything too exotic) but for an everyday vehicle I can't think of much to beat it!

FFRR TDV8 pretty reliable - owned two now and this is my current car

Freelander 2 Perfect - 100% problem free

Disco 3 and RR sport - by far x far x far the worst cars I have ever owned, both very, very unreliable

I also think that having a good dealer helps 100% when they do go wrong.

It's a bit of a lottery - if buying a used car that has never had any issues (you can get the dealer to give you a report) then you should be ok. Some are true lemons though, so be careful.

LR just doesn't have the same clout with suppliers as the larger companies, so there are bound to be problems with some cars. IF you have a good dealer, it makes ownership much easier, plus of course you have this forum and disco3.co.uk where there is a solution for every problem.

True, but in its class, the RRS was second - ahead of the rivals from Lexus etc.

LR also did very well (first or second) in the Auto express driver survey in the UK, so you can't go by surveys.

No brand is without problems - just go for it.

JD Power is the most recognised and respected survey about reliability / dependability. Not sure where you got the ratings for RRS......overall predicted reliability for a 2007 RRS = 3 stars ("about average"), for a Lexus = 5 stars ("amongst the best"). Not that I'd buy a Lexus, but if you're talking reliability, well......

I really want to be persuaded but I really see it as an expensive badge that you are almost gauranteed to have to spend additional cash and time on repair after repair.
Think its time to rethink until a Japanese company takes over LR and gets the reliabilty and quality up. (Honda built 600,000 engines with NO failures over a 4 year period) real shame as I love the shape  Clones are people two
