The past few days on the roads I've noticed my rear wiper is missing part of the screen, i.e I spray with water and I can see where the wiper has not wiped the surface of the glass.

I finally checked it today and sure enough the wiper was lifting off the glass. The reason?

The arm hinge was SO caked up in road grime and crusted salt it would not push the wiper onto the glass properly, a quick rinse of water and a small squirt of WD40 and all's well again.

I love easy fixes! (sorry about the high resolution, need to scale it down on the camera.)

I've also noticed that the wiper hinge is prone to oxidising. I suspect it's due to an alloy pin in a steel arm ...never a good combination.

I don't think it's oxidising (yet) it was just so crusted with salt that it was impeding the movement of the arm under the tension of the spring during the cycle, and therefore not coming back to rest on the glass properly.  L319 D4 HSE
