I've also noticed that the wiper hinge is prone to oxidising. I suspect it's due to an alloy pin in a steel arm ...never a good combination.

I don't think it's oxidising (yet) it was just so crusted with salt that it was impeding the movement of the arm under the tension of the spring during the cycle, and therefore not coming back to rest on the glass properly. L319 D4 HSE
