so assuming that the best tyre rather than cost is the key driver, which would be the choice for use in the UK, on road, deal with a UK summer and a UK winter and cope with me flinging the SC about all over the place:
Michelins
General Grabber UHP
Pirelli

I am sure they have come on a long way but I can't help but think of Hankooks as the 15 quid a corner tyres I used to put on my old bangers as they were even cheaper than remoulds and I am not sure I can bring myself to stick them on a 50K car, but I am probably waay out of date. I wait to be corrected! MY2010 RRS 5.0 S/C Santorini Black, 5 Spoke Diamond Turned Alloys, Privacy, Logic7, iPod, Cameras

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Just picked up my 4 new Pirelli P Zeros this afternoon - £185 each balanced/ valved and fitted, got 26k miles out of the first set and they still had another few 1000 miles left but killing 2 in one weekend on a pothole made it economically viable to replace all 4 as I got 4 tyres supplied and fitted for the price of 3. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hankook Ventus are great and a lot different to what you think, M+S and good rim protection, I googled and found great reviews from satisfied 4x4 users.

yup - I accept that I am probably out of date and the Hankooks are probably as good as anything these days - they certainly sell more than enough volume and seem to get good reviews.
Its a long time since I have had anything other than michelins as they were all I could have on the past 2 cars I owned, whilst I owned them (others have come out now). 4x4 is a whole new world for me but realistically the thing is doing motorway speeds in all weathers and since its the only bit of the car touching the road I am always happy to spend more IF you get what you pay for, but it seems that as long as I dont use Contis I am probably pretty safe! MY2010 RRS 5.0 S/C Santorini Black, 5 Spoke Diamond Turned Alloys, Privacy, Logic7, iPod, Cameras

Anyone tried Bridgestone Dueller HP Sports or the Toyo Proxes STII?
Yokohama Advan ST even?

All seem to be available in 20", but interested in the concensus, is the
Diamaris best all rounder?

Just ditched the contis for 4X General Grabber UHP, having spent ages on this site and others googling they seem to get the best overall review despite them being really cheap. On special offer as well so feels like a bargin. Only driven a few miles so far but I guess they must be quieter than the contis as I now notice the wind noise. They also look very chunky by comparison (although the contis were right on the limit). SHould clock up a few 1000 reasonably soon so I'll provide an update. MY2010 RRS 5.0 S/C Santorini Black, 5 Spoke Diamond Turned Alloys, Privacy, Logic7, iPod, Cameras
