Is this true?

What do you mean by "original phone system"? If you are talking about the "factory" PTI, you'll most likely run into technical issues. You can, however, install the Land Rover dealer installable "kit" version... which is similar, but is Bluetooth only since it lacks cradle support (which is not a loss for most, due to the lack of modern phones supported)...
