FUEL CARDS??

Hi Guys.

Just in the process for our chauffeur company of applying for some fuel cards.
We get calls all day long about these, but we usually dismiss them and i wanted to look into it all properly in my own time.

We want a card which has no contract, no minimum spend and no minimum card numbers, we only need about 3 cards, and we spend about £1k a month on diesel mainly.

Mostly use Texaco, Total, BP and Shell garages, have all around us so we could steer ourselves to use one more then the other if the card is the right one..

Anyone got much experience of these, or looked into them/use them currently?

Been offered by Fastfuels: This weeks rate of: 102.00 for diesel at Totals, with 3p surcharge on BP/Shell sites.

Spoke to Totalcard themselves, and they offer:
£105.915 per litre this week for diesel and on BP/Shell = Pump prices only!!

I tried to get total to deal, and mentioned fast fuel and the lady said, they are a bunch of cowboys and they will hide a load of charges in amongst the invoices and you'll get shafted by them!? hmm... jealous rivalry there or is there an element of truth in this? anyone know..

Random question i know for this forum, but lots of company car drivers/self employed people with fuel cards i am sure and normally works out and get the answer from this forum! Thumbs Up

Thanks mate.
Have just given Arval a call.

Unfortunately they charge per card per annum, plus the charges are for pump prices only, no discounts at all per litre.. so just basically invoice and credit terms with them and they send you reports and that..

Will bear them in mind, but think the hunt continues.. thanks for the details though.. Smile Thumbs Up

don't think i pay annual charge per card....knew there were no discounts though.......the thing that annoys me is that I have registrations on the cards so it can only be used for that vehicle but noone in petrol stations ever bothers, they'll even type in any reg you give them even though they can see the vehicle!

Its supposed to stop employees filling up there own cars but you never know as they will put any reg you give them!

rant over

C H Jones/keyfuels but they tend to more for bunkering but the prices vary week to week. Smartdiesel are relatively new kids on the block but have heard good things about them. Theyre internet based only if I remember correctly. A lot now demand direct debit to pay every month after getting shafted from companies going under with a huge bill behind them. Never had any problems with Fastfuel in the past to be honest.

I know this is a bit left field but have you loked at having your own tank in the yard? (I assume you have them garaged?) We used to get a discount for bulk buying and that way you can also shop around for who's the cheapest each time you need a fill. Buying a tank etc can cost like but if its a long term thing then it will pay for itself. Think we used to get up 5 or 6p a litre off (before VAT) buying in around 5-10000 litres at a time.

Hope that a wee bit helpful. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Thanks guys..

Tank is a long term option i reckon.
We don't have that many cars, just 3 saloons and 2 mpv's right now and Bham has loads of pumps nearby so we're ok to use pumps its just the right cards really.

I've spoken to www.businessfuelcards.co.uk
Guy called Tony on the phone answered every question i had, and reccomended two card, texaco and shell both £102.00 per litre right now this week, they are always around 5p behind pump prices.. for us this is most coverage, no minimum spend, no minimum amount of cards etc, so fitted the bill plus no pressure/pushing.. whereas the other guy KEPT ringing, which annoyed me.. will sort it out when im ready, not when you say!

So let's see how we go, plus they have an online registration thing with account management which suits me too..

Thanks guys.. Thumbs Up

Used Esso before think now £6 charge per annum per card fixed weekly price weekly invoice 3 weeks to pay minium spend £300 per month.

Went with Esso as national covergage the best out of all the fuel providers as some concentrate in the south or the north etc, not sure if that has any impact to you though

bayford fuels, no idea what they discount per litre they just send the invoice and then boooosshh the moneys gone cheers direct debit.

bayford.co.uk

you can have different levels of cards ie
petrol only / with or without oils
diesel only / with or without oils

can choose with and without oil for to stop thefts and overspends

and heres the best bit they do the card where you can buy anything that has a barcode (trust is not a problem when its only family using this type, not sure i would let any staff lose with it) Rolling with laughter "ha ha HA HA" laughing all the way to the bank!
