Used Car Values 'On The Up'

I understand that the BBC is running a feature on the news about used car values having increased recently. I have not seen the program myself, however I have found it on the tinterweb http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8251920.stm

It's got to be good news for all of us on the forum who own (or have a stock of) RRS's.

It makes interesting reading, and for once everything they are saying is right!

Will the return to 17.5% VAT make any difference to used car sales? It will put the brakes on new car sales a bit I would imagine but do used cars have any VAT payable on them if the VAT was paid when they were purchased?? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yes Tim, demo's and company purchased vehicles not used solely for commercial use (hire cars, contract hire cars etc) do have VAT added, however that probably accounts for 10% of the used market as a maximum.

You would have thought that the increase in VAT would mean that there were more used cars to choose from due to part-exchanges being generated. I personally think that values took such a kicking last year, and coupled with an improved confidence in the economy, that they are now returning to where they should be.

Makes running the FAST RRS cheaper than ever (if only people stopped bumping into it) Embarassed

James what sort of bid would you make for a 57 plate TDV8 HSE with 25k on it?

i have heard it could be as high as £34k, and private sale £36k, which would mean this being the first time I have ever made money on a car purchase (bought for £31k in January when the world was ending). This really demonstrates how nuts everything went!

I'm NOT looking to sell, just a hypothetical question really?

It all depends on the colour combo and if its an 07/57 or 08/57, but roughly speaking you're probably not far off the mark (possibly £1500 or so out), but most definately more that the £31k you paid for it! Thumbs Up

No cost involved with people running into FAST! Dented bumper has self cured now and I only have to polish out the light scuff on the grey bit - the black trim underneath will be a bit difficult though, might have to see if I can get that bit as an accessory............................. TB reckons the bumper is slightly out of alignment but it is the same all the way across!

Here's hoping that we have a really snowy winter and that will increase values of used SUV's even more! Cannot see me getting what I paid for it though .......................... Whistle 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Looks like it was Java and I assume then that the interior is Ebony as that is by far the most popular combo Whistle so the colour wouldn't be a problem for value as it is so popular. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
