Thank God I dumped em!!!

As I still have (hopefully not for muc longer though) a C30 Volvo I still look in at the forum over there and was reading this in the XC90 forum.

"To all MY-10 XC90 owners and those soon-to-be!
I have just received a letter from my supplying dealer to inform me that the self-leveling suspension has not been fitted to my MY-10 XC90 (delivered mid June).
I am delighted with my car, but very disappointed that such a major item could have been forgotten.
I just hope there are no other major items omitted at original build, which might not be obvious to the unsuspecting buyer.
I think one can expect more from a premium brand. "

"I had the same problem a few years ago with an XC70, I had a letter a couple of months after I bought it saying that the self-leveling suspension has not been fitted to my car and my local dealer will retro-fit free of charge.

The dealer told me it was due to a shortage of parts and Volvo weren't sure how long it would be before they were in stock so Volvo fitter standard suspension to all the car over that time period. The dealer also told me it would take them several week to get the parts due to the number of cars effected around the world, all dealers were now having to order them.

So if you want it retro-fitted get them to order the part well in advance. "

And the final report

"The car has now had the self-leveling rear suspension kit fitted by the dealer in Ayr. Strangely, the car now seems to have a rear wiggle over some bumps (the bigger ones) - I am not sure yet if this is characteristic or due to a fault with the installation.
Unfortunately, the dealer never followed the installation guideline issued by Volvo in 2001, and still valid for MY10 cars; they have cut through the carpet and insulation, rather than folding it back. I know the area is not normally visible (under the 3rd row seat squab), but it smacks of a slapdash job.
They were also meant to have done the 3 month/3k inspection, but have not stamped up the book. As I was able to add a huge amount of water to the screenwash reservoir the following day, I wonder if they actually did anything.
I guess I am heading back to them today, especially to ask about the oily stain on one of the leather seats (calcite), and the gouge in one of the rear door interior trims.
All in all, not a good start to my relationship with my local franchised dealer! "

I'm SOOOOO glad Im out of that kinda nonsense....... Rolling with laughter Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

What's the problem with the C30 4WD? I almost ordered a 5 cylinder diesel auto to replace my last RRS but decided that I didn't trust the local Volvo dealers (Arnold Clark) who fleeced me when I had a Volvo 480 ES a few years ago - that car was the most unreliable car i have ever owned - it always conked out when it rained and it never got me passed the dealership in Morecombe whenever I was travelling to the south coast!! Volvo always ended up paying for my onward transport as well as the draining out of the car and replacement of the elctrical bits that had been drowned. It happened 4 times in 18 months!

BTW LR aren't immune from leaving out major parts on the production line...................... some of us took delivery of TDv6's that had no diesel powered heater that is part of the emissions control for rapid warm up in winter and it had to be retrofitted, but only if customers complained about how cold the cain was on frosty mornings. If you didn't know about the TSB then you didn't get the retrofit done! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

What's the best way to find out whether an RRS requires recall/retrofit work? I assume contacting a dealer who can look up the service history for the car?

The C30 is turning into the 480 for the 21st century! Its had a new battery in Jan this year. VCUK refused to cover it under warranty as they car hadn't done enough miles in the preceding 8 months. (Only owned it for 4!!) Since then there has been various warning lights turn up on the dashboard and 3 weeks ago all the brake fluid disappeared! No leaks! Just vanished! I sent a pm to CHPR asking bout a Freeby to replace it but never had a reply yet! Would be handy having a 2nd car that can tow the tintent! I'l have a word with Town and County this week and see what they got.

P.S. Just had a look and the pms never been read at CHPR yet. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Maaclia you can take out a one day subscription to Land Rover Global Technical Resources website and download every TSB and manual going, but be aware many dealer's service managers appear not to read them so if there is one you think you need to have applied you need to print it out and take it with you to the service bay. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

As an add on to this there is now a "fix" for the handbrake releasing on the v50/s40 after parking. A STICKER IN THE HANDBOOK!!! Rolling with laughter It tells you to press the foot brake as hard as you can while appying the handbrake. Dunno if this will be the end of the saga but the latest on this is below.

The latest update to this saga.
After several times when I have had to call VCUK Customer Relations and chase them up (they NEVER called back when promised), I have been told that Volvo cannot and will not do anything to rectify the damaged carpeting. My guess the repair work would only cost them £30-40, but this is obviously too much to try to keep a customer happy.
I cannot believe how unhelpful they are.
I can only echo the many comments on this site - Volvo Cars UK Ltd seem to have no real concern for customer satisfaction, or at least that is my opinion based on ten weeks of Volvo ownership.

And they say there's a recession on and the car manufacturers are struggling. I wonder why when some of them treat customers this way........... Evil or Very Mad Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

I bet if you had bought a Korean/Malaysian or Japanese car the makers would have bent over backwards to ensure everything was OK and to YOUR satisfaction.
I have seen quite a few 59 plate cars today and I am sorry to say that the majority have been small Korean and Malaysian made although one of my neighbours has a nice new BMW 3 series on hos drive on a 59 plate.......... just trying to show off (not that we wouldn't have noticed as his last 330d was balck and this one is green) before he transfers his cherished number plate over to the new car. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Congrats on making it to the 10000 posts milestone Tim. Im just shocked at the attitude they hold to all their customers with problems now. Their customer services used to be second to none but now they just hide behind the "your contracts with the dealer" line all the time.
