What next?

I'm not sure whether this is an acceptable question to ask on this forum but I will ask it nonetheless.

I'm turning my attention to my next car and I am thinking of something with a little more performance. that said I do not necessarily want a sports car but will consider all that fit the bill (heck my 730 D SE was 0-62 in 7 seconds and that was good enough).

So, at the risk of some RRS heckling - any suggestions in nthe £40-£50k price bracket? Alas I have to consider fuel economy as well but I am still looking at Cayman S and M3 ...! WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Thats not a bad suggestion though. Cheaper than an M3, same 0-62 time and better mpg. I'd probably go for coupe over touring though. I have no need for a car with lots of space, anymore!

Only down side is no V8 growl but I could live with that. Thanks for the suggestion. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

well you could go for a late plate used RRS TDv8.......................... most of us are getting similar or better consumption to what our TDv6's got and you are a light year away in better performance! Or you could go for a 2009 MY FFRR TDv8 Vogue SE now that the 2010 models are flooding forecourts - very nice car indeed and makes you feel so superior to even M3 owners as you look down on them and then shut out their unburnt fuel fumes as they scream away from the lights! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I would look at the MY2010 TDV8 Smile nearer the time.

I'm a long way off getting a new car - just struggling to find something, anything, I like in that price range. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

DB9 great, but doesn't really meet the mpg requirement does it? Laughing

XF Diesel S? 535d?

There's little to choose between those two now... the 535d still pips it for me as I've got Munich running through my veins, but that Jag takes a lot of beating Thumbs Up

I'm not sure I would get a DB9 in that price range and was intending to buy new but I guess I could look at second hand!?

535d is nice but if going for that I would probably go back to the 730 diesel as that was a fab car!

I'm leaning towards the Cayman S at the moment but the world and his wife seem to have those. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Audi RS4 Avant?

Fuel consumption isn't great (I get 23.4mpg average from my S4) but it's got to be an absolute blast to drive and unlike a rear wheel drive will go around corners just as quick in the wet Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Bow down Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Stornoway Grey

The new Audi S4/S5 with the 3l V6 engine remapped sounds like a bit of a performance rocket with abt giving it around 435bhp, so you should have better economy and similar performance to the rs4. Also in the Audi brand and your price bracket had you looked at the TTrs? can have a coupe with 4 seats (if you need the 2 extra that is) with fairly respectable performance from a 2.5l turbo unit.

At £50k though I'd be tempted to look at a VXR8, 28mpg on a trip stonking performance and £25k change....Although I guess it depends if you want a car for fun or a car with a nice badge Wink

You'll get a VXR8 for considerably less than 50k... but fantastic car for the money. Personally, people who like their cars wouldn't give a sh** it has a Vauxhall badge on it.

I thought the S5 had a V8 engine?

I wouldn't go for a Vauxhall though. I just, couldn't! WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award
