United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
RRS Recalls

Got a call from a mate today to check if I knew there
were recalls on the RRS from Landrover, on checking found a few
but the concerning one was on 2006 vehicles but only being actioned
from June 2008, I may be wrong but have pasted below;
I put in on my browser Landrover recall 2006 on;

Rolling Eyes RECALL: 2005 - 2006 Range Rover Sport
NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V248000 www.nhtsa.dot.gov

Manufacturer LAND ROVER
Recall Date: JUN 02, 2008
Potential Number Of Units Affected: 37142

Description STEERING:COLUMN
Summary LAND ROVER IS RECALLING 37,142 MY 2005-2006 LR3 AND RANGE ROVER SPORT VEHICLES. RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL HUB AND/OR THE STEERING COLUMN COWL WITH THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH INCLUDES THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUITRY, COULD RESULT IN FRACTURING OF THE AIR BAG WIRING CONNECTION. IF AN AIR BAG WIRE FRACTURES, THE SRS WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE SRS WARNING LIGHT INDICATES TO THE DRIVER THAT THERE IS A CONCERN WITH THE SRS SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT IMMEDIATE REPAIR IS NECESSARY.
Consequence IF THE SRS WARNING LIGHT IS IGNORED AND A VEHICLE CRASH OF SUFFICIENT SEVERITY TO COMMAND DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG OCCURS, THE AIR BAG MODULE MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE INTENDED MANNER. THE CONDITION MAY RESULT IN THE DEPLOYMENT OF ONLY ONE STAGE OF THE DUAL STAGE DRIVER'S AIR BAG OR THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY AT ALL INCREASING THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURIES TO THE DRIVER.
Remedy DEALERS WILL INSERT 1MM SPACERS BETWEEN THE LOWER LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE COLUMN SWITCH MOUNTING POINT AND THE COLUMN LOCK TO IMPROVE THE ALIGNMENT OF THE COLUMN SWITCH. TWO FOAM PADS WILL ALSO BE FITTED TO THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN SWITCH GEAR TO PROVIDE ASSURED CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE COWL AND THE CLOCKSPRING FACE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 30, 2008.

Yep, I believe it was discussed on these forums a few times before. It's recall # P045 here in North America and was issued in June of last year. It also affected 2005-6 Disco/LR3s (since they have the same steering wheel.) I received the recall letter from LRNA over a year ago, never found the time to go to the dealer to get it done. My car is out of warranty and I try to avoid dealers like the plague now. Laughing

I now what you mean, but a recall is a recall and they have to do it
at their cost regardless of warranty i believe.

I had a recall done some years back by Jeep on a cherokee, apparantly at the time
there was a problem with the brake disc and a fear of them shattering, foolishly when
i went they tried to hit me for new pads to cover the costs while i was in, but the young
lad in the garage gave me the nod that there were inperfections in the disc which i then put
down as a cause of the pads and luckily enough they covered all the costs, ha but safety is safety.

It's the hassle factor: Drive to dealer, spend 10 minutes watching the chubby SA typing recall work order crap on his computer, answer probing questions ("Sir, my records indicate your car is overdue for a service by over 60,000 miles!" "That's OK dude, I get them done at an indy shop for 50% less than you fine folks." "Oh yeah? Are they qualified to work on a Land Rover?" "Yes. Can I have my paperwork please?"), get in line at counter to pay for a French fries smelling Chevy rental car with stained velour seats, drive all the way back in the afternoon and do it again in reverse... I know the recall itself is free but, like I said, I don't much care for stealers after the warranty is up. If the SRS light ever illuminates I'll go at once, though. Wink
