What to look out for on a test drive

Hi all and this is my first post. Been using the site a lot this week in research and have found a 2006/56 RRS.

I have seen the post re knocking from front suspension, but was not clear when this ahppens driving. Is it over rough rounds at low speeds? Is there anything else I should look for in the test drive?

I am getting the manufacture wareenty exteneded as soon as i get it for peace of mind as well.

I am also loking at some 20inch wheels. Do replicas presents and problems or any had any bad experience with these?

Many thanks

Cavham

Yes, I think I have got that bit too ......but it depends if your RRS has Dynamic Stability as to whether or not it knocks.

You don't say with engine and spec level your 2006 car is - not all TDv6's had the optional suspension set-up in 2006 so it's possible your car doesn't have it. Also PTI was only standard on Supercharged back then, it was optional on all the others IIRC so again your car may not have the handsfree. If you can get hold of the VIN (in a clear section of the windscreen surround bottom left corner of the screen you can take it to a franchised Land Rover dealer and ask them to run a history check - this will show up also any TSB's carried out on the car and the should tell you the full spec as well as any dealer fitted LR approved accessories fitted to it.
The suspension problem only effects cars with Dynamic Response. Replicas wheels can present problems, not for the car but for your insurance - RRSport weighs in at a beefy 2.6tonnes, the wheels must be weight rated for the vehicle otherwise you may invalidate your insurance. There have been many wheel related problems for replica/aftermarket wheels reported - mainly hairline cracking where the spokes join the rim because the wheels are not strong enough. FWIW I would buy a set of genuine LR 20's - they come up for sale on here quite regularly - also if you are fitting them to an S, SE and some HSE spec cars of that age check that the uprated steering rack has been fitted otherwise you will have steering problems due to early wear in the system if bigger wheels have been fitted to a car without the beefed up rack. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Would help to give more. It is a TDV6 HSE 2006/56 plate for a 2007 model.

I think from the post i have read 2007 does come with the DS, so i will be listening very carefully.

I take your point on replica wheels and was also my concern so i have to be patient till a set come up. I know the car has only had the 19 on since new as well.

Thanks for the replies so far
