Worn Steering Wheel

I have done a search to no avail, does anyone know if there is a known issue with premature wearing of the steering wheel leather?

My car has only 30k km's on it, and the steering wheel is now looking horribly worn in a couple of spots. Moreso than any other car I have owned with leather steering wheel, and similar or more km's on it!

I had the airbag cover on the last RRS steering wheel replaced under warranty for blistering - not really wear, you have pics of the wear??

Your dealer should replace it without issue - it's a known issue, just search the disco3 site. Thumbs Up

This is a problem I had it on my disco 3 apparently it's the sun UV, as it happens I just bought a new one for my rrs yesterday, new style smooth leather only £79. If you pm the large one he will sort it for you (i think he had a couple)....there is someone selling on ebay for twice the price of lr or £350 from overfinch

Warranty Replacement of the Steering Wheel

My Stealer replaced my steering wheel under warranty today for worn/peeling leather after just 33k km's in 18 months...

So I was expecting a nice new smooth one (as per other people's posts) only to get in and find a replacement new textured steering wheel - exactly as in the car when I got it new. I went it and quieried this, partcularly as I don't want this wheel to fail like the first, only to be assured that it was the latest wheel, and had been ordered in especially for my car.

Does anyone have the part number for the smooth steering wheel, and even better a TSB or LR doco stating that the smooth steering wheel is the one to replace prematurely worn textured steering wheels?

TIA

My "old" RRS had the textured steering wheel but my 2009 has the smooth one. Now I know that if I get it replaced it maybe a textured wheel, I will put one of those fluffy covers on it from KMART so that it doesn't wear out Rolling with laughter

No, 2nd, you can't have my smooth one, I like it! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Its not a 'replacement' as such. Its just whats on the newer ones (09MY). So if they replaced it under warranty they would have ordered the one for your vehicle which is the textured one. I replaced mine with this smooth one and its a much better feeling to drive. Didnt have any issues with my old one though other than the texture. WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

I don't think all MY09's have it.. I know BKHK said his does, but there was a MY09 in the Stealer last week that had the textured wheel.

2nd, that's weird. My 2008 car seems (according to VW) to have had the new style wheel and my 2009 car (according to VW) has the old style wheel.

Who's wrong and who's right? Anyway, I like smooth!! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
