Electronic rear brakes? What? Do I have this? | |
Now, before I start, I have read the brake bible that was available off this site on changing the discs and pads on the RRS, and it looked to be straight forward enough - undo bolts, whip out the old pads, push back the caliper, stick in the new pads and do up the bolts again (ok, simplified text but along those lines).
I'm one of those 1 hour job turns into 3 and a lot of swearing kind of people. As such, I'm swaying away from DIY just incase.
I called a few places for quotes (LR £175, National £155, KwikFit need to see the car for full brake inspection) but one place said it was more expensive than other cars due to electronic brake, where battery needs hooked up to charge and car "put to sleep" for the electronic brake to be released"... Erm, ok.
I'm assuming this relates to the handbrake? I have a 2006 (December) RRS 4.2 S/C
Is this the case, or is this person full of it?
Their price was pretty good though (£120), but is this because they don't have a clue?
I know I can pick up the pads for £30-£40 depending on the brand.
Would have loved to do it DIY, but have no trolley jack or g-clamp so the savings would no doubt just vanish on new stuff to clutter the garage!
