what exactly does the fuel burning heater do? I have one and I have seen and heard it operate. First time it confused the hell out of me as the exhaust was coming from under the engine block - I though the main motor was in a terminal state with back pressure.  If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

It assists the engine warm up process as the block is so thermally efficient that the engine takes a long time to "warm through" this means the cabin takes an age to warm up on cold days. It is also supposed to help reduce emissions during the warm up. It should start automatically at 5C or below, unfortunately there is no " cabin preheat" function or remote start available so you can get into a toasty warm car on a cold morning. Webasto were supposedly working on a remote control for it but nothing seems to have come to fruition. When D3 was launched many owners found that they could set a timer to come on but when they had their 1st service the car had a software "upgrade" that deleted the function from the car's systems. IIRC You can force it to switch on by pressing the Prog button which also puts the fan to max speed and switches on the front and rear screen demisters. TBH I just switch on the seat heater until the chair is warm enough to bear, by that time the car has warmed up enough to be blowing hot air out of the vents anyway.
All UK TDV engined cars should have an FBH. The petrol engined cars don't because it is Diesel powered 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
