FFRR to RRS anyone?

There are quite a few people that have moved from RRS to FFRR ... but is there anyone out there that has moved from a FFRR to RRS? if so, how do you feel after the change?

I came into an RRS TDv6 SE from a FFRR TD6 SE - loved both cars, but they are so different that they cannot really be compared. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

very interesting.. both cars having 'similar' looks on the outside with near 3 liter Diesel underneath and yet so different!! Would you care to elaborate further Tim? i don't think there are many that have moved from a FFRR to RRS so your opinion is special!

I am moving backwards and forwards - we have both a RRS TDv8 and a FFRR TDv8 in the family just now, courtesy of LRA. The FFRR is absolutely ideal for very big / mature people, who like sitting in big, very fancy, lounges and who have moved well on from their tearaway days of youth. The RRS is just ideal for everyone else (ie me Thumbs Up ).

I once owned a FFRR TD6 3.0 litre HSE. It was a bag o' s Censored t - slow, ship at sea and bigger than most school buses and about as fast as one. Sold it 3 months later and took a big hit. The TDv8 Vogue is substantially better - but at 47 years old I am at least 10 years too young to want to own one. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Wales 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Java Black

I've had Range Rovers for 25 years - 6 in all and all petrols. I changed from a FFRR to a RRS just for a change. Loved all my Range Rovers. The RRS is a different car to the FFRR and in my opinion better looking. I feel the FFRR has the edge on style and luxury travel. I felt the cruise control, tailgate and electric heated seats were better in FFRR.
I'm considering another change but haven't made my mind up yet!!!! FFRR or RRS or AM

The great thing with the FFRR is the sense of "occassion" whenever you go out in it. Makes you feel big and important even if you only have the base model like I had. As Smarticus said the TD6 in the early cars was awful, even though it was the BMW 3.0 straight 6 - smooth yes but quiet, no and it struggled to pull such a big beast along. The interior of the FFRR, even of the SE, was really special though and beautifully put together. From a dynamic point of view though the RRS TDv6 was far better.
I bought my FFRR as I had been saving for 26 years to own a Rangy after driving one of the first to be exported to the middle east in 1976.................... every time I got near to having enough saved up LR would hike the price some more so in the end I just went for the SE. I have driven the TDv8 Vogue SE and would have one tomorrow but they are a bit bigger than I need (the reason why I don't have a Disco3) and the TDv8 RRS does everything I want but in a smaller car.
I'm like Smarticus - a serial Land Rover Owner, the TDv8 is my 7th in 14 years, and that includes the Defender 90 that I also run 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yep, moved from Big Daddy to RRS and have regretted it ever since, NOT.

Totally different vehicle IMO, RRS better drive, better position etc, but way inferior interior and less road presence.

Would it stop me going back to a BD - no, especially with the new 5.0 being imminent Thumbs Up L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

My mate did the switch and has regretted it since - he misses the space / size of the FFRR and wishes after 12 months he'd not switched.

So, let's see, those of us who switched from the TD6 to the RRS don't regret from a Dynamic point of view but we do regret it from the interior ambiance/comfort point of view. I have been watching the specs of the FFRR range in the last 2 years and LR are definitely "dumbing down" the specs - what was the SE is now the HSE, Vogue has become HSE and Vogue SE is the Vogue and what was once something very special the Autobiography is now the old Vogue SE. United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

I spent today driving the FFRR TDv8. Pretty "interesting" conditions for some of it with a lot of snow falling, iced up roads and a few cross country routes to avoid major tail backs where lorries had failed hill climbs or jack knifed on descents.

My overriding conclusion is that I can't wait to get back in my RRS tomorrow ! The FFRR feels so much heavier (almost cumbersome), less responsive, more road noise, less stable, less grippy, less agile and way too many buttons inside ! It feels like a much older design for much older people than the RRS.

The only thing I would like to transfer across from the FFRR to the RRS is the heated steering wheel. It can keep everything else . RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Well I own a FFRR and have owned more Range Rovers and Land Rovers than I can actually count - never owned a conventional car. I also spend a significant amount of time in a Sport (for reasons I am not able to divulge) - hence also being a member of this forum.

I definitely do not fall into the old man category and am certainly not a fat porker! but given a straight choice between the two I would choose a FFRR every time. It suits my lifestyle, my family, where we live, our social circle, the comfort we want, the time we spend in the vehicle over the terrain we drive and what we do. A Sport would just not give the ample accommodation we need - guns, dogs and five hefty chaps on shoots etc.

What this does highlight though is Land Rovers market research - they have got two very similar vehicles which are oceans apart in how they appeal to different sectors of the market. At the end of the day well done to LR - afterall there would be absolutely no point in having two vehicles which competed within the same sector of the market.

I have said it before, you want a sports car - buy a Sport, if you want to feel really special and want a comfortable ocean going liner buy a FFRR.
