4x4 Road Tax

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here, after reading through the forum for a couple of weeks.
im really interested in buying a rrs tdv8, and i am close to sealing a deal on one very soon, with a lot of help
from kam, who i found on this forum.
The question i have is that will the road tax on 4x4 vehicles be incresing next year. I know that it is currently £400 for the rrs. I was speaking to a friend today and he told me that road tax on 4x4`s is going to go up to £1000 a year, next year. Is he right in saying this, and if so, it is really putting me off from buying the rrs.

Take no notice of your friend, it's worth any amount of road tax to own a TDv8. Just go out and enjoy it and make him very envious that you can afford one. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The ONE-OFF tax for new registered cars does not kick in until 2010 and is applied on a sliding scale, dependant on Co2 amounts. Once paid, the yearly con / amount ( Whistle ) is as above for 2010.

Thank you for the replies, you have put my mind at ease on the road tax issue. The same friend was also taliking about a few incidents not so long ago in the area that we live (which is a nice area). He told me that a buch of environmentalist`s were going around seriously scratching the hell out of 4x4`s and gouging the word `wrong` onto the bodywork. So if i do get an rrs i will have to find a garage to park it in nearby. It happened to friend of his who owns a q7, said it was nearly £10,000 of damage done to the car. He said parking it out in the street is a serious no no around here. Have they not got anything better to do, than to wreck peoples hard earned cars.

Soody, I live and work in your area and never seen or heard of trouble. And I suspect the recent weather - in which yet again having a 4 wheel drive has been seen as a sensible, practical, reliable and safe option - would reduce the "anti's" momentum (for a few months at least).

Your main concern should be that our local dealer has a very poor reputation for customer care. Personally I swear by Lloyds in Carlisle (knob on backwards incident apart)...... I suggest if you source a vehicle through Kam you get it serviced at the Land Rover specialists in Team Valley. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

We get no problems with our cars (touch wood), but I wouldnt have left it visible when I lived in Benwell as that would have been asking for trouble.

The area this was supposed to be happening in was jesmond, which is a well to do area. So its quite different to benwell. The problem is that, this is not a bunch of chavs, its a buch of greanpeace environmentalists going round and doing it. Anyway it hasnt put me off, just got to be careful. Thanks for the advice.

Shocked . I have limits but if i caught someone writing 'wrong' on my rrs they would end up with 'rrs' cut into their forehead. Be a bit hard denying it was me in court though Whistle . 'Judge i think he loves the rrs really, just hates he doesnt have one' Laughing Laughing .

Luckily my road is great (touch wood) Smile. No issues. Our snowman didnt even get robbed for his chav hat! WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

The VED thing is a lottery IMHO

First off Darling baby hikes up car tax to save polar bears

Second off he realises that most Vauxhall Zafiras fall into the supertax band

Third off he realises that the type of people who drive a Zafira are the types who usually vote for him so he delays the increase

Its madness

If you are spending 50k on a car the initial one off payment of 1000 car tax shouldnt be an issue

On the other hand if your car is in band G like the RRS and youplan to keep it for longer than a year can you say for sure the shyster wont change his mind again?

My cars are owned and paid for by myself

I have no probs paying an initial grand to put i on the road followed by 400 quid a year but after 3-4 years when its worth Censored all (I am still comitted to looking at SUVs) Id be seriously hacked off if VED rose disprportionally again

So basically do you feel lucky?

I dont know.......

Theo, paying the initial £1000 isnt a problem for me either, or the £400 a year tax, but like you say if the chancellor decides to disproportionately increase it even more i would seriously regret buying the 4x4. And i plan to keep it for at least 4 years.

I dont know if im lucky or not. Lets see what happens.

Count yourselves lucky, the morons who run this country deem anything over 1600cc to be a luxury.

My road tax this year cost around €600.
