Take no notice of your friend, it's worth any amount of road tax to own a TDv8. Just go out and enjoy it and make him very envious that you can afford one. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thank you for the replies, you have put my mind at ease on the road tax issue. The same friend was also taliking about a few incidents not so long ago in the area that we live (which is a nice area). He told me that a buch of environmentalist`s were going around seriously scratching the hell out of 4x4`s and gouging the word `wrong` onto the bodywork. So if i do get an rrs i will have to find a garage to park it in nearby. It happened to friend of his who owns a q7, said it was nearly £10,000 of damage done to the car. He said parking it out in the street is a serious no no around here. Have they not got anything better to do, than to wreck peoples hard earned cars. |

Soody, I live and work in your area and never seen or heard of trouble. And I suspect the recent weather - in which yet again having a 4 wheel drive has been seen as a sensible, practical, reliable and safe option - would reduce the "anti's" momentum (for a few months at least).

We get no problems with our cars (touch wood), but I wouldnt have left it visible when I lived in Benwell as that would have been asking for trouble. |

The area this was supposed to be happening in was jesmond, which is a well to do area. So its quite different to benwell. The problem is that, this is not a bunch of chavs, its a buch of greanpeace environmentalists going round and doing it. Anyway it hasnt put me off, just got to be careful. Thanks for the advice. |

. I have limits but if i caught someone writing 'wrong' on my rrs they would end up with 'rrs' cut into their forehead. Be a bit hard denying it was me in court though . 'Judge i think he loves the rrs really, just hates he doesnt have one' .

Theo, paying the initial £1000 isnt a problem for me either, or the £400 a year tax, but like you say if the chancellor decides to disproportionately increase it even more i would seriously regret buying the 4x4. And i plan to keep it for at least 4 years.

Count yourselves lucky, the morons who run this country deem anything over 1600cc to be a luxury.
