I understand what they say but the receipt should show 15%, you won,t be entitled to a refund but if buisness fuel your accountant would have make the adjustments. I thought fuel is in a seperate vat bracket and could be different try looking on HMRC web site MY10 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Zermatt Silver, 20" Diamond Turned Alloys, Factory Privacy Glass, Premium Leather, Contrast Stiching, Side Steps, Etc

We are VAT registered, and we always buy goods/services plus VAT when the seller is registered, and we reclaim the VAT amount, at the moment these receipts are showing the nett say £80 + £14 VAT (17.5%) Total £94, when really they should be £80 + £12 VAT (15%) Total £92, so am I being overcharged |

There is a scam running at the moment with retailers dropping the price after vat and then re-hiking the pre-VAT price so they are pocketing the 2.5% - FIAT has just been critised in the motoring press for doing this with the prices of all the cars in their range, ie they have had a hidden 2.5% price rise across the range!. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

if you bought 100 pounds worth of fuel it would attract £14.89 vat @17.5% the same fuel at 15% work out at £13.04 however if the cost of fuel wholesale had gone up 2.5% could the garage forecourt price remain the same not go up incorperate the vat cut and stay the same? then the only problem would be clerical If you are right and my calculations are correct you are out of pocket by a wopping £9.25 or 44 miles!!!! Am I missing something here or is £100 + 17.5% = £117.5 Because of the speed at which the VAT change was made many retailers advised that the receipt would still say 17.5% even though they were only adding 15%. As far as I understand the thread so far if you do the maths the VAT portion has been charged at 17.5%. I do not believe there is a duty difference for road fuel so in my book it would be worth a chat with Trading Standards. Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame! When the Government announced they were dropping the rate of VAT by 2.5% didn't they also announce that they were increasing the amount of duty on fuel by 2.5% to counterbalance the loss to the public coffers?

Ash I was away from the UK when this happened, but my understanding of the reduction was that the idea was to get folks out spending money on things that were effectively discounted by 2.5%, not to line retailers pockets with 2.5% extra profit and no apparrent reduction in price to the consumer. Of course I have no objection to the reatiler making extra profit, but to do it in an underhand way isn't on in my book - I would be hopping mad if I found after I had bought a Fiat that I should have paid 2.5% less - it would make a fair difference to the total sum payable if somebody were buying using a loan too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

We have purchased fuel at other garages and the VAT has been shown at 15%, and I am sure it is a clerical error, but the receipt from this garage shows 17.5%, like you say Trading Standards should be informed |
