Friend used to be a customer service manager at a certain RR dealership (as in Rolls not Range) in London, he used to state that they would not demean their customers by offering them loan cars

The policy of the local LR dealer is that if you bought a new car from them then you go to the head of the queue for a free loaner, if you are a good customer but didn't buy a car then you are 2nd in line, if you are a first time just for a service type customer then you may be asked to pay! In these straightened financial circumstances for dealers running a fleet of courtesy cars is a mighty expensive hobby and they have to buy the cars from LR or whoever before they can put them on the fleet - they are not "demo" cars. I do not consider it unreasonable to have to make a small payment for a loan car. CHPR offered me one in October when my own car went to them from Scotland for a service - even though there was a small charge I didn't need a loaner in central London and had nowhere to park it overnight anyway. To me it's often better to be taken home or to the nearest station/ bus depot whatever than to have a loaner for the day and many dealerships are quite happy to shuttle you to work or the local station and collect you at the end of the day - they don't have to tie up loads of money in a fleet of expensive courtesy cars. What I do object to with loaners is getting a dirty car reeking of cigarette smoke which has happened. I have also as a result of having a loaner then bought the same car from a dealer because I have had a "free" all day test drive. I bought a Disco2 and my Freelander as a result of having them as loaners 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
