Non-Dealer Servicing and Warrant Question

I am having a small disagreement with my local dealer about non-dealer servicing and the warranty still being valid.

Does anyone know of what law etc that states that servicing by non-dealers does not make warranties void?

http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/reports/c...oft683.pdf

This is the document from the OFT and you will find the relevant EC directive in Glossary D

It was the 'CARS BLOCK EXEMPTION RULE' (BER) Commission Regulation 1400/2002

It applies to all new car warranties sold in the UK from October 2003.

It basically states that a manufacturer must honour a warranty as long as a vehicle is maintained using original parts or parts of an equivalent quality...i.e. ATE brake pads instead of LR original ones etc etc

You will need proof of bills and the parts used/replaced but LR certainly know this so it sounds like the dealer has the arse because they make around 40% less for labour charges when carrying out warranty work!!

Hope this info helps Smile
