Just called in at cobblers, he recommended a webbing strap, its more versatile for securing to the car with a screw, less prone to cracking/tearing like leather and would be able to make something for you if you wanted

Obviously the weight is next to nothing so postage won't be a problem, but it's whether he will do a one off for the price quoted, which i will have to find out
