2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Next FRR

Hi,

In the french media they talk about Tata and the next Jaguar and Range Rover.
Apparently the FRR will be based on a modified frame of the future XJ.
Is this any good ? I mean the RRS is based on a frame made for SUVs and yet you have a good load of electronic to have it behave corectly on the road.
But the current FRR is based on a BMW frame and even with the electronic it is far from a well behaved car (my personnal opinion based on the TDV8) and far from it's X5 cousin.

In other words can a SUV be of any good with the heart of a saloon car ? Just asking to know if I continue my saving plan for the next FRR or use it to buy a maserati.

thnks

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

The current FFRR was already well advanced through it's development stages by the time BMW purchased Rover Group and Land Rover. if I remember correctly, BMW delayed the launch of the FFRR slightly whilst they tried to improve build quality and reliability issues.

The BMW X5 came significantly later, once the BMW engineers had "stolen" the 4X4 technology from Land Rover engineers. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

yep they had their xDrive for years but i think that they did not knew how such a high car would react and what to do to keep it stble and they did a good job.

but the current FRR is a joke for the price... and the next one will probably be the same as LR is said to prepare a huge price increase for the next version

its only a 'joke' if you pay full price and if you do, you're a muppet!

Buying 2nd hand is the way to go. I saw an 08 plate FFRR Vogue TDV8 with 11 miles on the clock for £49K. A nice chunk of change off list price L319 D4 HSE

The strory "I heard" back at the time was that BMW were prepared to invest ~GBP800 million in developing the X5 and particularly its 4x4 system, but then found they could buy Rover (inc LR) for the same amount, and get all of LR's world beating 4x4 knowledge off of the shelf. This really p Censored ssed Honda off as they were wanting to increase their share holding in Rover at that time too!

I also recently "heard" that the current X Drive (4x4) system in the X5 is a shared development with Mercedes Benz and thus it is in (or about to be in) the M Class, but the deal meant that BMW got to use it exclusively for a year or so first...

All of this is rumour and speculation, and I am perfectly happy to be corrected by those talking to more informed horses mouths!! Whistle
