Just an after thought on the portable DVB ( freeview ) tuners that you can now buy ... ie. USB style for your computer or for the car. What about TV LICENCE..... if I were to buy one of these and plug into my PC at work surely I would need to be Licecnced at the office ?

As long as you have a TV licence for home this covers one for the car. remember all those litttle Sony TV's that we had, they were covered the same way. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten 2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed. Actually those USB ones are great. They download the listings automatically too. I had one in my previous job, but I didn't have a chance to steal it before the gadget vultures descended on my desk when I left!

I've heard about these USB TV's great for a computer (Unfortunately I have macs) but could you fit them to a car? You would need some sort of HD wouldn't you? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten 2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed. You're right, you wouldn't be able to fit the USB ones into a car unless you also had a dashboard mounting kit for your laptop but it's only a piece of technology at the end of the day and it can evidently be miniaturised, so I expect it's only a matter of time before the likes of Nav-TV come out with such a thing for cars that already have suitable screens in them for whatever purpose.

Do you know you can buy in-car PCs? Ideal for mounting under the seat and then using a wireless (or wired) keyboard with built-in trackerball.

Certainly not seen these before. But they're shockingly expensive for the spec. You could buy an equivalent spec laptop for less than half the price and it seems all you're getting for your extra money is the ability to mount it in your car. If you're going to wait for 3G coverage in your area so a data card will work, why not just get a standard laptop and you'll be able to take it with you when get out of the car too! Sorry but someone will have to go a long way to convince me that this isn't technology for technology's sake. 2009 Outstanding Contribution Award - Joint Runner Up 2009 'Tech-Head Of The Year' Award - Runner Up Like it here?
