steering shake

ok, have ben running the new RRS TDV8 for over a week now and have found it relaxing (driving slower as well which is good for my licence) and very comfortable

only problem i have is that there is a steering vibation (quite faint) which seems to go away a little bit but always returns. Could be a speed thing (only there at certina speeds) or is could be worse when cold start.

So is this a 4x4 thing (as never owned one before) or do i need rims checking for balance or is there a suspension issue that RRS has.

any feedback or experiences? M3 CSL Silver Grey

I had the same with my 55 plate S/C. the local dealer has fitted a new type of modified ball joints to cure this but now the handling is worse than before, the steering is not as smooth, i accelerated hard yesterday to overtake a car and the steering went light, no response, damn near shat myself!!!!
Also at times, it pulls to the left, and on also when i turn a corner, the steering wont straighten itself like it used too.
its going back into the dealers this weekend to try and rectify this!!!!
not impressed at all with this "New" modification!!!

I've noticed this on our 2006 TDV6.

Most noticable when accelerating uphill.

The M'way from Paphos starts off with an uphill climb and I noticed it getting progressively worse with tyre wear.

When the Conti's needed replacing, I fitted 2 brand new Michelin Diamaras on the front and it was cured. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Thats the funny thing, i was quite prepared to pay for the full valet, but when i picked it, the girl says to me, "We havnt charged you for the valet cos you've been in once or twice before so its a goodwill gesture!!!" Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
Just as well they didnt charge me since they didnt do half of the job!!!!

ok, beack to my vibraton!!

had the f/heels balanced - no change
tyre pressure altered - no change

now been for inspection and they say that he viration through the steering is common t all 20 inch rims and is due to tyres

thjey said they road tested it and compared with stock RS with 20 inch rims and it wads the same

SO

do any of you guys with RRS 20 inch tyres get a faint steering vibration at all speeds above 10 mph. I can feel it through the steering AND slightly through the body (when knees touching door) and after a long drive my fingers get cold with shaking of blood out of them i guess)

surely its a fault!!!!!! M3 CSL Silver Grey

See my post above. Ours is on 20" Stormers.

Noticed it slowly creeping back as tyres have bedded in but mostly when accelerating uphill. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Ok I sometimes get this when it's a little colder, basicaly I put it down to the RRS being a heavy vehicle and with it being parked overnight the tyres start to "square off" then after a little driving the tyres warm up and become "normal" again. I had it yeasterday after driving the car for about an hour on the Autobahn, parked the car up(tyres nice and warm) air temp was just above freezing, car was parked for about 4 hours, when i set off again I get the small vibration or bumping for a couple of mins until the tyres get up to temp again. Not sure if this helps but if it's only when you first start driving think this may be the reason. Speed Limits! not where I live!

United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Stornoway Grey

Hi there,I too have experienced steering shake.I have a new tdv6 se on 18" wheels. When moving off I have felt a shake through the steering wheel for the first 15 miles, then it goes away. This occurs when the car has been standing for about 6 days without use. When I use it on a regular baisis I don't notice it. I hadn't thought about the tyres losing their shape, though I have come from a D3 with the same sized wheels and never noticed any shake. I was thinking whether it was caused by lubricant or something settling with the car not being used for a time. I was wondering how to explain the problem to the service dept when I call in to replace the terrible wiper blades as the car will be 'warmed up' by the time I get there and I can't leave it there for 6 days!
