just thought I'd share this one - I happen to live about 45million light years away from my nearest BT exchange so although my BB service is 16Mb download, for the last 3 years I've only ever received around 1Mb maximum.

Each year I get more and more annoyed with the speed not improving and go through a series of technical support calls with plusnet, however never get anywhere as in the small print they legally only have to supply over 400kbps service which I get (this is a BT Wholesale thing apparently) so I have basically just had to live with it.

This morning I was up early and decided to look for man's jobs to do - got thinking about the possible issues with the Broadband and thought I'd just remove all the extensions from the master BT socket and see if that helped - result was no change. I then decided to change the BT Master socket (as I had some in the van for a job). Result was I am now getting 3Mb download Can't believe I never tried this before - it seems the BT master socket fitted by the electrician during the house build three years ago is cheap and nasty and hence killing my BB speed.

For the hell of it I've been downloading loads of 1080p movie clips since then and looking for loads of other massive files to download

I am a little annoyed with plusnet as although I know I was achieving the minimum speed, surely they should know I what I should be getting and been able to advise or even to get BT involved. I think sometimes they expect customers aren't going to pay and therefore fob them off to avoid costs - I would have been happy to pay for a site visit to resolve it but was never offered that option.

Anyway thought this may be useful to anyone suffering from very slow speeds as I would imagine most new builds may suffer from inferior parts being fitted

My connection is much more stable now and sorry to make you cry but I now have 17mb download speed instead of 11mb.....and I was complaining

no probs - I'm very with 3Mb to be honest considering I live in the sticks
