Certainly is... any times posted? I think I saw an 8:50 posted for the SC some while ago.

Since the TDV8 engine probably weighs close to, if not more than the S/C engine, and since it has reportedly 300 hp, (100 hp less than the S/C), but with equal torque, (400 lbs ft), I find it hard to believe how the TDV8 could be lapping the 'Ring faster than the S/C. Also, will the TDV8 also come with the same suspension, wheel package, brakes, etc. as the S/C?

I can believe it, i used to have a BMW 330i Sport, fantastic off the line however would constantly be out dragged on my long motorway drive home by 330d sports. Once a big torquey diesel is running it will pull like a steam train - petrols need to be reved hard.

The other key point missed from this over all-discussion; residual value and life time costs.

I sat in a 4 month old TDV6 HSE when I put my deposit down that was going for £1,500 under list price with no options on it (8K miles on the clock), right next to it was a 6 month old S/C with 10K on the clock, factory headrest DVD and a sunroof going for £52,499.

16% loss on the S/C versus 3.3% loss on the TDV6

If the S/C does an average of 15mpg and the TDV8 does 20mpg as predicted that still works out at an additional 100 miles extra per tank. (both have roughly 19 gallon tanks)
The S/C will need another 6.5 gallons or 29 litres to cover the same distance - last time I checked we were at about 91.9pence per litre therefore an extra £26.50 to go the same distance as a tank in the TDV8. You need 26 fill ups to do 10K miles in the TDV8 and 35 fill ups in the S/C or an extra £765.

Now, do we really want to haggle over the odd mile here or there when the sum difference is only £700 odd quid over 10K miles in comparrison to loosing £9,500 versus £1,500 in depreciation????????

If the TDV8 holds similar residual levels as the V6 then it has to be a no brainer surely?

The market at the moment makes it all very clear - big petrol engines can not compete at trade in / re-sale time with big diesel engines.

I know first hand!!!! I lost 30% on an Audi S4 under a year ago - vowed never to let myself go there again.

But when all is said and done - these things are not investments, if you can afford to buy one then you can afford to run one - for all you S/C gents and ladies out there I am as jealous as hell - would give my grandmothers kidney for one!!!!!! I am just a tight arse who can't justify the loss I guess Laughing Currently: Carbon Black 535d
