Advice to a potential newbie

Hi Guys

Having recently joined the wonderful world of parenthood, I now need to sell my beloved 911 ( Big Cry ) and buy something larger to transfer my precious cargo around in.

I am looking at a RRS or a new shape X5.

I have driven the X5 3.0d se and though it was a great drive, but both my wife and I prefer the look and "feel" of the RRS.

Having only driven the 2.7, I found it slightly sluggish when comparing directly with the X5.

My question is this - how does the TDV8 compare to the TDV6? All reports suggest that this will be a more favourable comparison to the beemer.

Also, are there any must have options that are missing from what seems to be a very well specced car in HSE form?

Many thanks in advance.

AH

In essence, chalk and cheese.

Why not go feel it for yourself, i'm sure any LR dealer would bite your hand off and be glad to offer a test drive.

From what i have seen myself, the 3.0d BMW engine is much quicker than the TDV6, although IMHO the LR unit is much more refined.

The TDV8 is a whole different proposition completely.

It sounds (Almost) like a V8 petrol and the torque is sensational.

TDV8 would be my recommendation.

Must haves (Not sure which are std) are PTi, Privacy (Personal thing), LR side steps, 20" wheels (Altho I think these may be std on TDV8 HSE)

Yep, the TDV8 is a world away from the TDV6.

X5 drives better than the RRS imho, but the RRS is overall a better proposition.

Thing to do is to go and try out the alternatives - if your budget can stretch to the TDV8 then it's a no-brainer Thumbs Up

Slovenia 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

X5 is a great car with a nice engine, but the TDV8 is a superb car. When I was buying my new car last year I also tried first X5 3.0d and almost bought it then I tried TDV6 and I liked it more but the engine was a bit "lazy" for such a heavy car. But TDV8 engine is a different story with a great sound and torque...so the answer is obvious 2008 RRS TDV8 HSE, Java black, Alpaca,.....

Cheers

It seems that a TDV8 is worth a look then!!

The side steps and tel prep don't seem to be standard items on them from my basic research, but it seems that eveything else is stanard - including the Privacy Glasss?

PTI (telephone prep) is standard on the TDV8, as it's standard on the HSE and you can only get the TDV8 in HSE or HST form Thumbs Up Side steps and privacy glass are options however.

Yes but for 30 mins tops with a salesman

Which is just not good enough in my opinion

Especially when I can have a Q7 for a whole weekend

My circumstances are that I have never driven an SUV and as such blowing a whole heap of cash on such a radically different machine (for us) actually is a big deal
If Audi can give me 48h then I expect LR to make more of an effort than 30 mins

The salesman locally tells me I will find all I need to know in this time
He may be right but Id like to make sure

I suppose he must be selling lots and doesnt need to make the effort to cultivate a sale from me
Which is out of odds with the market in general

Especially when second hand prices have bombed..........

Ho hum
