United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey
Its official - RRS is a money pit

Hi

Has anyone else seen the recent finance figures (1st Oct) on the LR website?

GFV of 38% at 3 years !!!!!

I have been quoted a GFV of 21k on a 55k TDV8 at 3 years

Now I know a car is seldom if ever an investment but thats a whole lot of depeciation, plus VED plus fuel

As a private buyer I cant write this off against tax and so am questioning exactly how much I can see SH prices falling before Id buy

To illustrate an XS is listed online at 38.5 new vs 14.5k at 3 years
Im honestly shocked at just how far Land Rover themselves see prices going down the toilet

You may say the XS is not a popular model but even so the HSEs for sale here at 30k for 55 plates have done well to shift at that kind of money

Welcome to the world of the controlling media.....the reason the GFV's are so damn low is becuase all the shiesters of the world, the ones that create the "buzz words", effectively control us humans aka sheep...........makes you laugh really, we all like to think we are in control of our own destiny....reality, it's far from the truth, we are being raped daily from all angles.

LR are clearly playing it safe due to the current talk in of the "credit crunch" and pending "recession"......3 years is a long time and we all know that in thisfickle world, things change mighty quickly.....give it 12 months and the headlines will resort back to "climate change" or whatever else some idiotic bureaucrat thinks up......one things for sure, we will again be bamboozled into adopting and adhering to that new buzz word.

I didn't buy my RRS's and FFRR to worry about GFV, I bought them to enjoy the driving experience, comfort and because they are/were lovely cars. I expect to loose money on any car I buy, it's just that the cars I like seem to loose more than other cars. What a truly boring world this would be if everybody bought cars that loose only small amounts money.......................... we would all be driving boring VW Golf TDis or BMW 320td's and that isn't the motoring world I want to be in thank you.
I have only owned one car in nearly 30 years of driving that didn't depreciate and you will be surprised to hear what it was because they had a very bad name for reliability - it was a handbuilt TVR450. I owned in the 1980's for a year and I got back what I paid for it, but then there were only a handful ever built, I waited a year for it to be delivered and I sold it to somebody who couldn't wait to have one and was prepared to pay the list price for a low miles used one!

Just think if you buy now with a GFV so low, when you come to trade it in at the end of the period and if values have recovered to last year's then you will have a heap of equity to put into your next one! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

We need to be more positive!

There's not much that's not depreciating at present! WW is spot on! I had to buy MAW out of his RRS to stop him from sending us all over the edge Whistle !!!

I'm quite sure even my house is depreciating at the moment, and I certainly don't have a GMFV on that!

James - VI aside for a second Whistle , I honestly believe car prices have started getting silly over the last few years anyway - AUDI have just released the new Q5 pricing starting at £30k before any extras - a decent specced Q5 will set you back £35k. - factor in the £8k loss I've just made on my Touareg in 4 months means just being more positive isn't going to resolve anything really

Kaine, a very real example is an ex-demo RRS that I offered a forum member in September. He wasn't able to make a decision at that time, therefore we have now resumed talks for an October deal. Glass's Guide reduced his vehicle by £1775 and ours by £1700 between September and October guides. Obviously by adjusting the values of each vehicle in line with GG the figure to change will have only got worse by £75, which of course we will be absorbing Big Cry .

The Touareg to Q5 example picks a vehicle which is yet to be launched, and due to the desirability of having the latest model, dealers will probably hang on to their margin, thus meaning that the gap is at it's maximum. They will probably air on the side of caution with regards to the offer they make on any part-exchange due to lead times, and the fact that it would expose them less if they were to sell to customers without part-exchanges. Not so much now, but in the past we have had customers buy product from us because other brands would not give them the facility to part-exchange! In Q3 Land Rover put in place the loyalty bonus (£3000) for existing RRS customers, to help reduce that differential between new and old. I am sure that your supplying VW dealer would do all they could to minimise the depreciation on your current vehicle, with the prospect of selling you another VW and thus gaining another registration.

A similar aged BMW X5 3.0d MSport dropped £1975, and a Maserati Gran Turismo by £2725, both of which were (or still are) the must-have a few months ago. I'd still love a GT though Mr. Green .

You are right, being positive alone will not help matters, but the media are able to control our buying habbits to a certain extent.

James Thumbs Up

THE REAL QUESTION IS: how much do we value the pleasure of owning and driving a car we like and enjoy.

That's why I'd not buy brand new ever again unless I was in silly money.

Let someone else who's too proud to have a 2nd hand car take the hit on VAT and any depreciation.

I really don't know what my next car will be, I'd prefer it to be a Landrover of some kind over most brands and if so, I'll be getting a 1yr old low miles example and saving myself a whole world of hurt. Its bad enough that fuel and car tax is so high, so why spend more when you don't actually NEED to. Sorry james, I know its not what you want to hear as a dealer but if having a brand new car from the factory is not the mission in your life, you can save huge amounts of money.

I hate to think how much my Sport Supercharged would be now, one with similar miles to when I sold it... go on someone scare me.
