A car buying challenge for the Autumn of 2008!

OK, scenario - the Government has decided that it needs us all to economise with our cars. They have protected savings, bailed out banks and now they are going to help rich folks who drive large, "gas guzzling" SUV's by offering a free replacement vehicle of choice - they will also pay you back the difference between today's value of your car and the new one you get through the scheme............................... but there are catches - whatever you choose to replace your SUV must comply with the following:
1)CO2 emissions not to exceed 225gm/km,
2)Fuel consumption on the UK combined cycle must equal or be better than 35mpg
3)You are not permitted to buy an electric car or hybrid (as they are now proved in some cases to be more polluting than a conventionally powered car.
4) The limit price for the new car must not exceed £35000
5)The car must be in production now
6)If possible the vehicle is to have less than £100 pa VED as well, even better if it qualifies for the minimum band.

Now off you go and see what interesting wheels you can find! You can use the figures given on manufacturers websites when you find anything remotely FUN to own

My car is the Mini John Cooper Works Hatch 6speed - CO2 = 165, Combined MPG 40.9 Price before options £22450 VED class d= £120 pa oh and the insurance is group 17 Big Cry so what I gain on tax and running cost I loose on the increased insurance premium.................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Go to the bottom of the class TB.......................................... you did choose the XF 4.2S/C didn't you? Rolling with laughter

But you could have the XF TD - CO2 = 199, MPG = 37.6mpg VED is band F, £210pa and Insurance is group 17, which is more than my TDv8! But purcahse price without options is £33900 so another gold star!

Now I could change for one of them and save something, even if it isn't the planet 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

James my choice would have been the F2 TD4 Auto but it just falls out of the field by a whisker on the combined cycle fuel............................... also the idea was not to buy another SUV. Big Cry Had LRX been in production then I wouldn't have counted it as an SUV, so come LR get the darned thing into production asap. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
