I was just reading the paper and there was an article on auto gearboxes, the guy states that "it is always good practice to select neutral (while applying the brake) when you are stationary for any period other than the odd few seconds at, say a zebra crossing.

I try to do this as often as I can, but I have to admit that I do get lazy at times and just sit there in drive with my foot planted on the brake pedal. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Must admit I leave autos in gear at the lights too, but it is good practice to always select neutral whilst stationary

Yeah, at the lights pop it up into park, mind you i have scared a few people behind me before by just letting it pop in reverse first, it's funny watching the expressions on their faces as they think that a two ton 4x4 is about to reverse over them. Try it next time your at the lights Speed Limits! not where I live!
