Bahrain
USA-Middle East spec

Hi guys,

Am going to buy a RR Sport SC asap. I live in Bahrain (Middle East) New vehicles can be bought in the USA at a considerable saving. My only concern is 1) Will the warranty be honored and 2) Are there any important specification differences such as Air Conditioning (Temperatures hit 50oC here in the summer so a strong AC fit for purpose is a must)

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Maffifaloos,

My advice is to check with Euro Motors (ask one of the tech guys in the Land Rover service section).

The only good thing about importing a US-spec RRS to the Gulf is that you can get the ACC option!

Good luck! Thumbs Up

I think Gulf-spec cars have a slightly different cooling system - check before you import.

Thanks Leo, I'll check it out. One would hope that with areas in the US such as Miami or the Deserts of Arizona etc that the A/C's are pretty good with a cooling system to match. I'll let you know what I find out.

Sorry, I meant the cooling system for the engine and transmission, not A/C!

United Arab Emirates

Hi

I also seriously considered buying RRS in USA and shipping back to Dubai, as there is approx. 25% price difference. I decided against it for the following reasons: -

1 LR in Dubai come with 5 year 250k warranty and 5 years service package. For sure I wouldn't get that on an imported car.
2 The cost of shipping, inc. all documentation, insurance, customs etc is approx. $4k, so saving now not looking so great, plus the resale value will be less come time to sell, so again price saving is not so great.
3 Spec-wise no problem, except .........and this is the show stopper, cars in US obviously come loaded with USA maps in the Sat Nav and because it is not a DVD based system you cannot load Middle East maps into it. I checked into this quite extensively with Mapquest who make the maps and with Landrover Diplomatic Sales and both confirmed that I would have to change out the complete Nat Sav system. Apart from the costs, the shear hassle for me is too much, so with all this in mind I decided against the import.
3 If however you do decide to go ahead, I have a dealer in Florida who is really easy to work with and claims to have the largest LR inventory in North America.

Good Luck
