Crystal Ball Gazing on s/h prices

Hi

Ive been looking at S/H TDV8's on the LR web site

One year old ones seem to go for approx 45k, yet one dealer just up the M1 has one on at 39k

Id appreciate comments on why this may be so
The specs and mileage are broadly similar

Is his cheap or are everybody elses expensive?
And more importantly how do you see prices going over the next 6 and 12 months?

Im not desperate but need a new car before the winter
Do you think I'll get a significantly better s/h deal later in the year or is the summer season traditionally the doldrums?

Clearly 6k goes a little way as I just cant see big SUV's doing terribly well in the current economic climate
In fact a pal has just bough a Q7 at such a good price from a dealer he still cant believe it
The salesman at Audi said he just couldnt shift them at the moment

theo

You can get some very good deals on TDV8s at the moment and £39k is not uncommon and better deals can be had. As for the future the only way is down for the time being! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Prices have plummeted on thirsty cars for the time being, you can thank the scaremongers for that and oh yes, Darling....but all is not lost. It is close to bottom out now and there will be a gradual recovery in the next 12 months, which will help with resale values. Current forecasts are that oil will drop to $70 barrel by end of the year, so that will help........Darlings onslaught on the motorist though is anyones guess Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the comments
Im fairly out of touch with the UK car market so all opinions welcome and will be considered Smile

There is clearly something wrong with the market for SUVs as evidenced by my mates experience at Audi and the fact that I have found a ML500 at pretty much half price after less than 2 years
(Thats half basic list not even half 'plus options')
OK so ones an Audi and the others a petrol but even so its pretty staggering

Whats more of interest is that ALL of the prices quoted for S/H Audis are bullish, yet when you walk into the showroom the ££££ just fall off them without much negotiation.

I am particularly interested in a RRS

All 1 year old TDV8's are much the same price on LR's website except the one an hour up the road
This dealer doesnt seem to have any other TDV8's
I can only assume he has reduced it to dump it before he feels it falls any further and get in ahead of the competition.

What I dont know and cant begin to guess is what would the state of the S/H market be like in a regular August if we hadnt had the recent fuel and tax publicity?

If this is traditionally a quiet time thenit makes sense to consider buying
If this is usually a bit busier (lots of PX's for new plates surely) then perhaps things are really really bad not just really bad and I'll hold out a few months longer and watch the trend

Thoughts?

Theo

Theo I don't think it's the fuel and tax situation, I think folks are trying to reduce their debts and pay-off loans rather than borrowing even more - also even though the banks etc say otherwise, I don't think finance is so easy to come by as it was last year when the finance houses were being careless about who they lent my savings to. Fuel and tax will contribute to slack sales of SUV's but not as much as not being able to get the finance - basically its the same as the housing market, money for houses gets tight so the prices drop until they find a realistic level, same with boats and cars. Also I think folks are just sitting back waiting to see what the next scatter brained idea A.Darling and Co at the treasury is going to hit them with. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW
