Trade in deal opinions?

HI Guys, been a long time since I last posted here, good to see some things haven't changed Wink

I thought I would seek your collective opinion on a trade in "offer" I have received.

Basically i have had 2 years of utter non-sense from the service dept at my local dealer, with more damage to my vehicle every time it has been serviced/ repaired.

After complaining in writing (I won't bore you with the details, basically I should ever have accepted the car when delivered) i have been made the following offer;

my tdv6 hse with brembo's etc plus £24500 (paid £49k in june 06) in exchange for TDV8 with stormer pack (body kit, exhaust, list £58000)
additional stormer wheels £1798.
the car is not the 8.5 model so no electric steering column or tdv8 badge (apparently that is only difference).
it is a new car, in that it has not yet been registered so would get an 08 plate.

i am tempted and planned to get rid of the tdv6 soon anyway as its approaching end of warranty.

so apart from being a total mug for entertaining the thought of doing business with the same dealer, do you think the offer is decent? Stornaway Grey/Ebony TDV8 HST, September 3rd Smile

Hi p-trax - have a look around at used examples - personally I wouldn't be paying full book for a TDV8 at this moment in time

I don't think that's too bad from what I can work out... do you mean you need to pay for the Stormers or is he throwing them in? Also - would it be possible to wait until Sep 1st for delivery and get it on a 58 plate?

used isn't really an option, as I need the deal to be done through this dealer, as it's supposed to be to offset my crappy experiences with them to date.

The stormers are an additional cost if I want them, although I will continue working on them.

AS for the 58 plate I have gotten the " everyday your current car is worth less" sob story.
I guess I could do the deal now and give them my car, and not collect a new car until September (I am on hols for last week of Aug any way!)

the deal is basically £8k off of the list and approx. £24K for my car as a part ex Stornaway Grey/Ebony TDV8 HST, September 3rd Smile

personally I cant see how thats a special deal for you at all - looks like the kind of deal anyone may negotiate coming straight off the street with a PX Confused

that's the kind of feedback I need Smile

I wasn't sure if £8K was a decent discount or not, I think the £24K for my car is about right as a part ex. (albeit very disappointing) Stornaway Grey/Ebony TDV8 HST, September 3rd Smile

.............Those few lines just about sum up my experiences of D3 ownership, although with a different dealer not a million miles away from yours. Quite frankly, I don't intend to spend another cent on anything with a LR badge, and won't be drawn in to ANY deals with them, no matter how good. I seriously would rather let this pile of crap I own, die, and just take the hurt, rather than spend good money on another rubbishing product with an even more rubbishing dealer network again. Nick - Thanks for the plug, but that loyalty bonus was meant to be our little secret!! Rolling Eyes

Seriously though P-Trax, if you would like me to look at the deal for you then I'm happy to do so. As Nicks says, there is an incentive for current RRS owners to part-exchange their current RRS into a new one (2008.5my) or alternatively there is 0% APP finance. The most important thing is for you to be given some options and to be able to qualify if what you have been offered is fair.

Sadly we don't have any unregistered 2008 models (all went some time ago), however we do have 2008.5 available Wink . If you would like to email me with the full spec of your current Sport and what your preferred new vehicle would be then I will crunch some numbers for you. Best bet is to email jamestayler@charleshurstgroup.co.uk (careful of the spelling of Tayler) as opposed to sending a PM.

James Thumbs Up

Hi P-Trax. Just nipped in to see how youre all doing & read your post. Am no longer RRSC owner but like to stay in loop! My thought for what its worth is stick out for the wheels & wait until September & DONT give them insurance cover note until then as il bet they will probably register it 08 if you do! Also, Is it just me or do car dealers think we are all mad? I had the "Youre cars worth less" BS with a dealer on an 18 month old Volvo for the company. He did stop saying it when I pointed out his Volvo would devalue too, he didnt agree but shut up when I suggested I could obtain monthly drop on vehicles from a 3rd party so we could adjust both values. Hope this helps & good luck with the deal. Rolls Royce Ghost, RRS 2.7 TDV6, E220 Avantgarde Estate.

Excellent...
My fave discussion of all time was when i spoke to a merc dealer, and was asking him about a current shape C220 CDI SE Auto for my mum, 57 plate foe £21k, he went off on a full blown sales speech saying, how well merc hold their values etc etc, and i asked what about if we keep it and the shape changes what do you reckon? and he was like.. ah mate don't worry it will perform well in the future too hardly lose anything..
I then said can you do anything on the price, and he was like nah nothing, its at rock bottom, so i said ok im happy with that subject to the pex, he said oh what have you got, and his tone dropped when i said, oh well a 55 plate Merc C220Cdi elegance auto with 14k miles. He realised most of the bull he had just spouted would be shown to be sales BS when he gave me £2k behind book on my current c class! ha..

So i offered him £19k for their car, and the call soon ended, but was fun while it lasted..
Did the same with our Audi A8 when were thinking of updating.. cars lose loads and are losing more now then ever, especially petrol engined monsters, so stick with em or face the slap... thats what im suggesting to my family members right now anyway..
