Knocking - Autocar

Someone wrote into the letters page of Autocar in yesterdays edition asking if they had heard of such a problem...they hadn't but advised should not be such a problem and should be a warranty fix - also on the premise that these cars should be built to last many years - modern day LR's shouldn't be any different to cars like Defenders etc...

Might be a good idea to contact Autocar and let them know of the protest - might kick LR's arse into gear.

Hello

Sorry this is a late reply but I had problems registering on this web site. It was me who wrote to Autocar although not the best reply from Goodwin, but this is only the second time I have e-mail him and both times they got published.

I got my 2007 RRS a few months ago and noticed the 'knocking' straight away, after a few weeks I realised it wasn't normal and located the issue on this forum. I booked it in at Guy Salmon in Stockport who identified the anti-roll bar mounts and changed them, they also said they wanted to change the ball joints. After the ball joints were changed it was ok for about 2 hours then the knocking returned. Back to dealer and they said that the new ball joints (part No. RBK500180) had failed again and were on back ordered.

That was 3 weeks ago and they are expected in early September, the reson for the delay - there are alot of RRS which are having the same problem, the new ACR (think thats the system) is too heavy for the rest of the suspension set up and the ball joints are not robust enough!

I will keep yopu updated on my progress.

My RRS is now in with the dealer getting the 'new' ball joints fitted, I have also decided to get the bottom skirts & bumpers colour coded while they have got it. I will keep you posted when I pick it up on Friday.

Cheers

Update on progress, dealer changed mounts and still not resolved, they have since had it in again and have justed changed the main suspension arm mounts and by their admission it's still knocking on O/S.

They want it in again for a week (!) and are getting LR technical to come and look at it.

On a plus side the colour coding on the bumpers looks spot on.

Sean,

Suggest you read the other posts on this subject. I can categorically say now, that whatever they do, it will NOT fix it.....I know, I have had it ALL done, and yes I mean everything. Suspension, bushes, arms, bars and ARC units...there is nothing else to change. Big Cry

If your serious about getting it fixed, report the progress here: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic7227-180.html

Mine is being inspected by LR on Monday, so will be good to compare notes before all hell breaks loose Exclamation L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Conventional wisedom is that a knocking ball joint is a knackered ball joint. As such joints are saftey critical components I wonder if "knocking" RRS's coming up for their first MOT are going to start failing. Imagine the publicity if a generation of RRS's are taken off the road (just as they come out of warranty) and there is no satisfactory fix from LR to allow them to go back ? Maybe you should contact the Ministry of Transport Vehicle Inspectorate about this ? RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini
