Are the side steps load bearing?

Probably a stupid question i know, but I assume the OEM side steps are load bearing, i.e. not just for show?

Are there any downsides of having them?

you should be able to stand on them to get into/out of the car.

I have heard of them getting in the way when offroading too

Can't say on the RRS.

But the side steps on the FL2 stick out a little bit too much for my liking, and due to been tall enough to step into the car without them they caused me to have to step in from further out , which became a PITA.

They bolt to the chassis lie most LR steps so are pretty tough and robust but as mentioned above they are not rock sliders
