If you extend the steering wheel towards you, and lower to the lowest position it is possible to wriggle the instrument cluster out, but it is far easier if you remove the steering wheel first and less chance of scratching the cluster clear plastic and leather trim etc. also easier to see the screws etc. removing the steering wheel is not overly difficult if you have the airbag release tool or it can be done with a bent metal coat hanger.

Hi Col,Thanks for reply,Its just all the trim panels that have to come off first how and in what order.I know the earlier ones were relatively easy,but this does look well paneled in and it has paddle shifters etc.Do you know why the needle fails to light up?

If I remember right, but I could be wrong the illumination in the instrument panel are SMD Led's and one is positioned to project the light up the transparent rev counter/speedo needles, so perhaps one of the led's has failed, but as I said I could be getting confused with something else as it was while ago I took one to bits.
