Lowering ??

2013 autobiography Range Rover sport

I'm looking to lower the jeep to sit at a nice driving height, does lowering links work?

I want the suspension to act as normal with just a lower driving height and want the access mode to work as normal

Is this possible in a 2013 autobiography with using lowering links?

Help and advice appreciated

Hi, welcome to the forum.

First point - it's not a "jeep"! Jeeps are a specific make of vehicle and not nearly as nice as Land Rovers. Whistle Keep calling it a "jeep" and we'll start ignoring you! Rolling with laughter

Second point, you can lower the vehicle using links but you would need adjustable ones if you want to have access height available. You would need to experiment how far you can lower it and still get access height to work. The problem is that if you lower it too much and then use access height, the vehicle thinks the suspension has bottomed out and raises to off road height. This is to prevent grounding of the underside of obstacles.

An alternative is to buy an IIDTool but I'm guessing you're not wanting to spend £300+ to do this.

Lowering the vehicle will result in a slightly firmer, springy ride which is somewhat at odds with the Range Rover ethos. But hey, it's your choice. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Ok firstly when I mentioned lowering , at normal driving height I think it is very high when running 22" alloys, I have heard about these links but also heard you loose access mode, I just want to lower the driving height slightly and still be able to use the access mode. By doing this I know all about how the suspension wil feel spongy etc but I wouldn't be going terribly low

I would recommend iid to alter just the standard height.
Be aware that as you lower the height, the camber will become more negative (tipping in at the top) which then causes more toe out (scuffing the tyres on the inside). It also affects handling.
A small reduction in height makes a big difference to the above.
So after you have it where you want it, get 4 wheel alignment done.

This IID tool wer do u go about getting one of these and how are they installed or do u need a computer to set it up ?

you usually use a smart phone to connect to the IID BT (£400) via bluetooth.


Maybe I should lower mine as it's on 22". I only realised how much taller than normal it is when I parked next to another RRS last weekend Shocked

No wonder I am getting board of climbing in and out Rolling Eyes

I doubt being on 22 inch rims makes a huge difference to the height. I run 255/55/19 which is overall taller than the 285/35/22 would be and mine isn't "in the air". The arches are filled much more effectively than the rubber band rubber manages and it can go near kerbs without fear of scuffs to the wheels. Not that I worry about scuffs to the wheels, however, but you know what I mean. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You plug it in to the OBD port. You need to do an initial set up / registration but the instructions are easy to follow.

IID not only allows you to play with heights, it allows you to look at (and clear) fault codes, check live values of lots of parameters (useful for diagnosing issues).

My comment was a reply to Andy K... Whistle

The reason it has a highish ride height is because, unlike every other maker's 4x4, this one can actually go off road. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
