Another nail in the Pirus's coffin?

I've just got round to reading the In Gear section of last weeks Sunday Times and Jason Dawes and Nick Rufford did an interesting road test. They took a BMW 520d SE and ran it against a Prius from London to Geneva to see which would be the most economical........................................
Care to venture who won the MPG stakes?

Fuel used 10.84 gallons - average mpg 50.3 and 11.34 gallons for 48.1mpg. The Beemers figures are the first set so it was the more economical and the better car to drive and Rufford had to slow down to let Dawes keep up on the autoroutes. Dawes also ran out of petrol and the battery took him all of 2 miles on electricity before it died! Surprised? I'm not I bet if the driving had been all in the city the tables would have been well and truely turned.

Toyota is presently getting a lot of stick from Prius owners because it would appear that NOBODY has yet managed to achieve 55mpg in one whereas they claim it is good for 65.7mpg on the combined cycle! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

To me the Prius is purely and simply a family size city car, it was never meant to be a long distance car. Toyota will flog you an R400h or the 650h for mile crunching and neither of them are really that much more economical when running purely on petrol 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

had a very interesting chat with a chap in the 'battery' industry yesterday - he explained the battery technologies are about to go through a revolution which will make major enhancements in car development in the next 10 years - its all 'nano' manufacturing techniques in the battery cell industry apparently
