RHS Under bonnet box..Purpose (2009)

In my 2009 there is a large covered box on the opposite side to the battery containing the master cylinder.
It has a large space I suspect for a second battery in a police car . Is this correct? Will not take an 096 so what is the correct biggest size? Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

It is for an auxiliary battery and not just for police versions.

This post is on a D3 but its the same set up for the early L320. The later L320 has extra stuff in that space which makes it effectively impossible without moving existing stuff around.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/the-verandah/62...it-d3.html 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

This is the spec for the aux. battery as fitted by L/R, but not shown in L/R parts list as a option for the 05-13 Sport, but could probably utilize the mounting bracket's etc. from the D4 if you wanted top fit this particular size battery.

Cheers

15 AH thats a waste of time ..I think I can just get the o96 in at 72 AH that I just took off my ford focus. I want something that can crank the car if the main one fails etc. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Only just enough room to get the battery to fit.

On my 09 that space is totally empty..just the sloping plastic bit at the front that pushes the 096 battery back.... Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Yesterday I fitted an 096 into the space.
1/ you need to cut the small "clamp down lip" off the front end of the battery to shorten it ..woodsaw was fine.
2/ At the front of the box is a 45 deg up plastic thing with fins ..cut that off with an angle grinder . You could stand the battery on a piece of 1/2 ply so it will go all the way forwards ( must do No 1)

Battery fits perfect with two lengths of 6mm rod and a bar with two holes at 8 in apart Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.
