Digital fuel gauge fault

Anyone had any problems with the fuel gauge (MY10 onwards)? Mine seems to have gone faulty and is now showing 0 fuel even though tank is full. Any ideas? Or is it a visit to the dealer? 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Endjin,
Had the very same thing happen a couple of weeks ago, booked for it to be looked at and was told that a software update was needed, and if this did not cure the problem it was the sender unit in the tank at fault.since the software update touch wood alls been good.
But had a follow up call from the LR service desk to check the fault had been cured I was told that they had 2 other RRSports with the same fault same year!,
Hope this helps.
Regards

Had this happen to me the other day..got LR assistance out and they banged the sensors underneath and the fuel level came back on again after significant hammering. thought my fuel had been nicked at first...

Hi,

I have just had this problem appear on my 2010. I put in a gallon of diesel to be safe (wife was driving so wasn't sure if it had got to empty) but the engine shudders on tick over and stalls after a dozen sudders or so.

Any help or ideas?

Thanks
DM

digital fuel gauge!

Hi Endjin
How did you get on with the fuel gauge fault? my 2010 tdv6 has developed the same it was intermittent when under warranty now the warranty is out the fuel gauge just reads empty!! Not to keen to send it to local dealer as they claimed they could not find a problem, always worked when they had it.
As this is now been relegated to the wife, I am enjoying my new sport, it is a rather risky game of fuel lottery.
Regards
Stovie

Ok, so it would appear that both the rear fuel pump and sensor failed and had to be replaced. Not a cheap fix and a bit dissapointed with Land Rover in the fact that they will not recognise the product weakness.

Good news is that the car is back up and running a dream..

Product weakness? 5 people on a forum of almost 9000 would certainly not suggest a problem to me. Just think you have suffered from what happens, wear and tear and just general part failure. It's never a great thing to hard things go wrong but as another member so rightly pointed out, we seem to be now in a society where people expect all the responsibility to stay with the manufacturers for an indefinite period of time. 10+ years ago people would pop to their local backstreet garage, get it fixed, pay the bill and not complain about a part failing outside of warranty.

By the way, I have always took out extended warranty, after an engine failure on a BMW it proved very much worthwhile. I would have been several thousand out of pocket and technically due to that cover my extended warranties since have still not quite reached the amount I saved. So definitely recommend looking into it. Plenty of companies out there just make sure they don't have low limits on the claim, usually for a small amount extra you can hugely increase the covered amount.

I have had this on my 59 RRS for the last few months (fuel gauge sat at 0. It sparked back to life for a couple of days in the middle then went again). I took it to a dealership this morning and they said the *diagnostic* would be 6-8 hours at £155ph because they had to take the whole fuel tank out. I politely declined. This doesn't sound like anything above! Shall I try again?

Thanks
Ben

Yeah, that's pretty much how I reacted. Then sighed wearily.

I had this done under warranty and i think there is a TSB about this
its the crimp connections on top of the fuel tank sender unit that were badly designed and prone to bad connection
hit a big bump and you may find the fuel gauge works for a bit Thumbs Up
