Getting the transmission serviced

Apologies for spamming this thread, especially if this question has been answered before. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything right before encountering any nasties down the line.

Purchased a second hand sport three weeks ago. Only had one other owner from new. Came with a full Land Rover service history. Unfortunately, I can't see what has been carried out in each service as there was no receipts or documentation handed over. Only know that the dealer I got it from did an engine service on it.

The car is just slightly over 100,000 miles now and I'm wondering is now a good time to be getting the transmission fluid flushed? What signs should I be looking out for that this needs to be done? This is my first automatic, so again sorry for the newbie question!

Do I really need to be taking the car to a specialist mechanic to do something like this? I know there's a three month warranty that came with the vehicle when I got it from the dealer, so I'll be reaching out tomorrow to see if servicing to the transmission falls under it.

According to the LR service schedule the gearbox is not due for service until 10 years or 160,000 miles so assume nothing has been done. ZF recommend interval should be 50,000 miles so get a service done.

So get a full flush and filter change done.

The warranty won't be worth the paper it's printed on and certainly won't include for a service item that, according to the manufacturer, isn't yet due. The warranty is the way dealers get out of paying for stuff they are legally required to pay for - they just say "sorry, checked and the warranty doesn't cover that item" before giving you a price to fix something they should be doing anyway.

It will benefit from a gearbox fluid change, either the Land Rover method of changing the fluid twice (doesn't change all of the fluid but does an ok job), or better still is a flush.

As to where you take it, the best advice is a decent indie Land Rover specialist. That's for all work on it. Avoid LR dealerships like the plague. They are expensive and inadequate and will often end up either damaging something or not fixing the problem it's in for requiring more than one visit. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I recently had mine done at 133k and made a noticeable difference. I never buy into any of this sealed for life rubbish. I got mine done by Ian Bodsworth, he's a mobile guy with an excellent reputation. You can find him on FB on the Range Rover groups.

It won’t do you any harm finding a LR specialist, although I couldn’t offer any advice where in Ulster. Perhaps have a quick sear on the Disco3 sister site to see if there are any recommendations. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Mine has 108k on it.
I got the transmission serviced - so a new filter as well.
It has made a massive difference, runs quieter and smoother.
Don't wait ! Current car - 2016 MY17 L494 in black - sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.
Sadly gone - 2013 L320 3.0 TD in grey! sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.
