Bypassing air-con compressor

A search on here didn't dig up anything and Google seems to have let me down...

Has anyone ever bypassed the air-con compressor (auxiliary belt) on a 2.7 TdV6 - even if it is with a belt from a different make? Not sure I can be bothered to replace the pump.
