Forum Newbie - Looking for first RRS - Standard Advice Post

Hi all,

My name's Brett and first post on the Forum. After a number of years of thinking about it, I am looking to enter the world of RRS ownership.

I am a low mileage driver due to being a home office working, with sub 8k a year mileage, mainly school runs (30 min, national speed limit - country lane blast a few times a week), weekly trips out with the lads / lads & MTBs, the odd M25 office trip and probably 2-ish long haul drives a year.

Due to the low miles I am tempted with the petrol, however...

A friend of a friend has a 2007 TDV8 for sale which has a whopping 197k on the clock - but said friend is a mechanic and has had it on the ramp and confirms it is tidy, strong engine, box, bags, all the toys with no issues and a FSH. The guy is after £5k for it..

After some hive mind advice if it is worth a look, or just skipping past and investing a few more pennies into another?

Cheers!

Brett

Hi Brett, welcome to the forum. You will get plenty of good advice here and also over on the sister forum disco3.co.uk because as you may know the Discovery and the RRS are fundamentally the same cars underneath.

Concerning your potential purchase, there is a lot that can be said about buying from a friend. Service history and records of what has been replaced and when (ie. invoices and receipts) are essential when purchasing these vehicles.

The TDV8s are known to experience turbo problems at over 100k miles. This is an expensive job to replace. I would find out if this has been done recently on your friends one.

Also, always have a bit of cash left over to cover maintenance costs. They are amazing machines, but can cost you dearly when things go wrong.

Good luck in your search Thumbs Up Kev

Gearbox and turbos would be the worry
You could do a lot worse though!

At 5K I assume you have at least 3K for repairs if required?

Thanks for the tips so far!

So this is my internal debate. I can either go for a budget for a few years then switch out for a lower mileage, minter fancy one.

Or go mid budget and get a lower mileage with history etc. and not switching up as soon.
